A Note from Cara and Ann
We have had another successful week! Our wolverines are having fun learning new routines and transitioning to a new school year.
Below are a few reminders...
- We want to facilitate a smooth transition into school in the mornings. If you walk your child up to the school building, please allow them to get in line by themselves. Parents are welcome to wait until their child enters the building, but we ask that you stand away from the class lines to help students enter the building safely.
- We will have our Curriculum Night on Wednesday evening. This is a parent-only event. Teachers will share important information about the school year. Our schedule will be K-2- 6:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and 3-5- 6:40 p.m.-7:10 p.m. Specials Teachers and other support staff will be available from 6:15 p.m.-6:45 p.m. We hope to see you there!
Thank you PTA for a successful Kindergarten Ice Cream Social!
Westgate Cares About Reading!
September is National Literacy Awareness month and to celebrate Westgate Cares is teaming up with Bernie's Book Bank to help children in the greater Chicagoland area have access to books and experience the joy of reading! Westgate Cares will be collecting new or gently used (birth - 6th grade reading level) books. Children’s picture books, board books, recent non-fiction, graphic novels, and chapter books are all appreciated. Books can be dropped off at the bins near the school office between Thursday, Sept. 5 and Friday, Sept. 20.
A special shout out to these Wolverines for being WestGreat!

A Note from the Health Office:
- Kindergarten is a time of spills and accidents! Please help the health office by packing a spare change of clothes in your student's backpack, including underwear and socks. This also helps your student feel comfortable in their own clothes.
- All kindergarteners need to have a physical with an immunization list and an eye exam form completed and turned in to the health office by October 15th. Please reach out to Mrs. Barr with any questions at kbarr@sd25.org
- Hearing and Vision screenings will begin next week for students with IEPs and any new students to the district. State-required screenings for kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will begin shortly after.
2024-2025 Room Rep Information
Are you interested in being a parent room rep for your child’s classroom this year? If so, click here to apply. Applying does not guarantee you a room rep position, as it will depend on the total number of parents that apply. Please be patient as the PTA finalizes room rep selections because it may take up to two weeks. Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Westgate!
Westgate PTA Room Rep responsibilities throughout the year may include:
- Plan the Halloween & Valentine’s Day parties for your child’s classroom--and recruit up to four parent volunteers to assist at them
- Assist your child's teacher with setting up volunteer schedules
- Welcome and mentor any new families in your classroom during the school year
- Assist your teacher with other classroom needs
