Principal's Message
Happy Sunday!
Thank you to everyone who attended our College & Career Fair this last week! Students had the opportunity to connect with college representatives and career leaders in our community. We hope it was a valuable experience for all. We will continue to provide college and career readiness opportunities for our students to help them plan and prepare for their post high school goals.
I'd also like to thank our Counselor, Ms. Mojica for getting the whole thing organized! Well done!
This coming week ends our second second attendance month. By Friday, October 4th, students are expected to have earned at least 18 out of 20 attendance days. This meets the 90% attendance requirement to remain in independent study, but let’s aim for 100%. Achieving full attendance means completing all required coursework and staying on track in your classes. Here is how you know if you’re on track:
Online Classes:
Green: You're on schedule.
Yellow: You're behind by 11-29%.
Red: You're behind 30% or more and at risk of failing the course.
Packet Classes:
A total of 8 packets for the month should be turned in by Friday, Oct 4th.
When you meet with your teacher this week, please ask:
"How many days of attendance have I earned so far?"
"What do I need to do to achieve 100% attendance?"
If you are behind in your courses, this is the week to catch up. Please be sure to let your teacher know if you need help in your classes. We're all here to help.
Have a great week!

PSAT Reminder
On Thursday, October 22, 2024, Susan H. Nelson School will offer the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) to any interested freshman and sophomore students. The PSAT is a multiple-choice assessment covering verbal, mathematics, and writing skills.
This optional test offers valuable practice for the SAT and provides personalized feedback on student performance, including suggestions for improvement. The SAT, typically taken during junior year, is a key component in many college applications, particularly for students seeking admission to competitive colleges and universities. Additionally, the PSAT serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT). During junior year, students who take the PSAT may become eligible for scholarships, such as the National Merit, National Achievement, or National Hispanic Scholarships.
The standard PSAT registration fee is $18. However, in support of our students' pursuit of higher education, the District has chosen to cover the full cost for any TVUSD freshman or sophomore interested in taking the test. We strongly encourage all freshmen and sophomores to take advantage of this opportunity. Please note that the PSAT is also available to juniors, though the fee will not be covered.
If your student would like to participate in the October 22, 2024 test, please complete the PSAT/NMSQT Form by Monday, September 30, 2024. To Sign-Up for the PSAT click HERE

Opportunities for Students from the City of Temecula
The City of Temecula’s Workforce & Education Development Division has shared with us some upcoming events that can be a big benefit to our students!
- Rocktober is an annual fall music competition that will be held on Saturday, October 26th in the Temecula Valley region. This event is a celebration of young and talented musicians who come together to showcase their skills and compete for exciting prizes. The competition takes place at the Community Recreation Center Amphitheater and features a total of 16 bands and musicians delivering outstanding performances to both a lively audience and a panel of judges. Participants include solo singers and bands.
- The annual Young Women's Career Conference is a breakfast event scheduled for the Thursday, December 5th at the Temecula Conference Center from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. This inspiring gathering brings together 150 high school girls from across Temecula, providing them with valuable insights into a wide array of career paths guided by empowering female industry leaders. Each year, the City invites a select number of students and a representative from each high school in the City. The City will share more information as we get closer to December! STAY TUNED!
