The SHARK Alert
Chatham Elementary School Family Update
Friday, September 22, 2023
Dear CES Families and Friends,
It was wonderful to see so many families at last evening's Curriculum Night. Please be on the lookout for more whole-school events in the future. We love celebrating all of the amazing work and fabulous people in our community!
Congratulations to the following lucky students whose parents & caregivers entered them in our prize raffle last night.
- Backpack winners: Jaiden S., Lucy P., Breckin E., Teagan B., Theo S., Malia M., and Luke S.
- Game winner: Lilah E.
- Picnic winner: Markayla J.
- Principal for the Day: Ellie Y.
Fridays are always extra special at CES. We begin our day with a Dance Party and Mr. Toppa runs our Cafeteria Cabaret during lunches. The Cabaret is back from last year and provides students an opportunity to sing and perform for their peers. It is one of our favorite things about CES! Students can sign up to perform during their music classes with Mr. Toppa. Look for video uploads on our school YouTube page soon.
Make sure to check out our Community Events section of the newsletter. There are a number of fun family events taking place in our wider community.
Wising you a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Kelly

Last Call for CES School Council
We are currently recruiting new members for the 2023-2024 school year. Meetings are quarterly and approximately 60 minutes in length. Please contact Dr. Kelly (jakelly@monomoy.edu) if interested in joining this year's council.
The first meeting of the School Council will be in mid-October.
Meet Sgt. Massey
Next week, all of the Monomoy Schools will be holding safety drills. As a school, CES is required to conduct four fire evacuation drills and two Run Hide Fight drills each year. We will be holding a Run Hide Fight drill next week. Sgt. Massey and members of the fire department will be visiting classrooms early in the week to talk about safety and the importance of being able to evacuate the building in a safe and efficient manner. Having our first responders in our building and spending time with our students helps build our community and eases student anxiety during drills. Our SHARKS work hard to be SAFE!

A Note from Nurse Jaime's Office
We also do encourage COVID testing at home as there has been a sprinkle of cases throughout the school. If your child tests positive, the date symptoms began is their day zero. They should remain out of school for 5 days and may return on day 6, granted they are fever-free and have an improvement in symptoms. When they return they should wear a mask until day 10, and on day 11 they will be clear and may remove the mask. The school no longer tests the students for COVID, this should be done at home.
Please contact me with any positive cases or questions.
