Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page.
Grade 1:
Math
First graders continue to work on fluency for adding and subtracting within ten. They use strategies such as counting on, making ten ( e.g., 8+6=8+2+4=10+4=14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13-4=13-3-1=10-1=9); they are learning how to find the missing parts of ten and learning how to relate counting to addition and subtraction using numbers on a ten frame as a visual and hands-on model.
E/LA
First graders continue to work on fundations lessons that focus on short vowel sounds within double consonant ending words. These are words that end in s, f , l and sometimes z . Some examples of these words are; mess, cuff, toss, hill, chill, fuzz, buzz and we call them bonus letter words. We are also introducing them to glued sound words such as ; call, ball, hall, tall.
Other:
Look for notification from our first grade room parents asking for donations for our grade wide gingerbread making project to take place on December 21st.
Grade 2:
Math
Students are working hard on subtracting two and three digit numbers with regrouping. Using IXL and/or flashcards would be a wonderful way to supplement what they are learning.

We will be reading a variety of fun and diverse holiday books in the upcoming weeks.
Students did a fantastic job researching owls and writing informational reports.
SS
Students will continue reading and listening to short passages from the social studies textbook. They will be introduced to new vocabulary as well.
