Finally, as we head toward the later stages of the fall season, we want to take a moment to celebrate our senior athletes. These incredible students have dedicated years of hard work and leadership to their teams, and we’re excited to honor them as they wrap up their final seasons at Western Albemarle.

An AP Scholar with Distinction and a member of the Math Honors Society, Julian balances academics and athletics with a passion for coaching and volunteering. He has been the head coach for a VABA 2nd grade boys basketball team for the past two years, helps out at Peachtree baseball tryouts, and even spent time volunteering at a preschool in South Africa. Week in Review (September 2nd - September 8th)
Young Volleyball Teams Developing Confidence
The Warrior Volleyball teams continued their strong play with two big wins last week.
On Tuesday, the Varsity team defeated Louisa 3-1. Ava Hardy delivered a tremendous performance as the team's setter, consistently executing precise sets and smart plays to lead the offense, Mary Kumer had an outstanding performance at the service line and at the net, while Celeste Zevgolis was exceptional on defense as Libero. The JV team fought hard but fell to Louisa 2-0.
On Thursday, the Warriors traveled to Orange County High School and both teams came away victorious. The JV team won 2-0, while the Varsity team swept Orange 3-0 behind a standout performance from Katherine Heilman.
Congratulations to both teams on a fantastic week!
Field Hockey Teams Shine Despite the Rain
The JV and Varsity Field Hockey teams braved the elements on Tuesday night, both defeating the Louisa Lions with dominant 6-0 victories despite the pouring rain.
For the JV team, goals came from a balanced offensive effort with Piper Froncek, Eleanor Keevil, Margaret Kimbrough, Cora Matzke, Molly Nolasco, and Aggie Stokes all finding the back of the net.
The Varsity team was led by Jean Nika Van der Westhuizen, who scored a hat trick. Avery Ibbeken, McLean Stokes, and Marchelle Van der Westhuizen each added a goal to complete the commanding win.
Great job, Warriors!
Golf Team Celebrates Senior Night
The Golf Team celebrated their Senior Night at Old Trail on Thursday in front of an incredible crowd of family and friends. Though the Warriors lost by just 3 strokes, it was a night to remember. All 8 seniors had the chance to play, and the highlight of the evening was Hunter Wertheim chipping in for birdie on the 9th hole, creating a moment that truly captured the magic of high school athletics.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support our seniors!
Football Teams Battle Hard
The JV Football team showcased tremendous resilience in their comeback win against Wilson Memorial High School on Wednesday night. The Warriors’ ground game dominated, led by Henry Conti, Cole Thomas, Forrest Schnell, and Garrett Frye. Morin Hubbard sealed the victory with a long touchdown reception, putting the game out of reach.
On Friday, the Varsity Football team traveled to Fishersville to face Wilson Memorial. Although the Warriors fought hard, they fell short with a final score of 33-7. Despite the loss, the team’s effort and determination were evident as they competed until the final whistle. A big thank you to all the fans who made the trip and showed their support. We appreciate your unwavering spirit!
GO WARRIORS!
Thank you to all our athletes, coaches, and supporters for another exciting week of competition. Keep up the hard work, Warriors, and let’s continue to make this season one to remember!
