November Proud Panthers
This month, we are excited to celebrate the students who were chosen for demonstrating the character trait of gratitude! These students have shown a positive attitude, appreciation for others, and kindness in both big and small ways. They consistently express thankfulness for what they have, and they make an effort to acknowledge the help and kindness of those around them. We are proud of these students for setting a wonderful example for their peers, reminding us all of the importance of being grateful every day! Way to go Panthers!
Full day of school Tuesday, November 26
We'd like to remind all families that Tuesday, November 26, is a full day of school. Students will attend from 8:50 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. Please make sure your child arrives on time and is ready for a full day of learning with a snack and lunch!
All schools closed November 27-29 for Thanksgiving
All CCSD 89 schools will be closed from Wednesday, November 27 through Friday, November 29, for Thanksgiving break. The district office will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. All schools and the district office will re-open on a normal schedule on Monday, December 2.
THANKS to all the family support of the Fun Run! Our new library furniture is starting to arrive. We're so excited for the new chairs. Check them out!
Holiday Teacher Appreciation
As we put a cheerful wrap on 2024, I am pulling out all the stops to show our teachers and staff just how much we appreciate them. To do it right, I'm planning a BIG surprise holiday week before break—and could use your help! Here’s how you can help spread a little extra holiday cheer:
- Prize Donations for Maximum Cozy Vibes
We’re collecting prize items to make the break as relaxing as possible for our hardworking teachers. Think cozy: coffee shop gift cards, blankets, socks, mugs, candles, lotions, or anything that screams “put your feet up and enjoy!” Imagine it’s a holiday gift basket designed for serious relaxation—the cozier the better! Any size donation from Dollar Tree socks to Black Friday blanket deals are welcome. The more we have, the more staff appreciation we can give! - Snack & Treat Support
Don't have time to shop, but want to contribute? We’ll be keeping snack trays well-stocked that week, and any financial contributions would be put to good use fueling our holiday fun (and our teachers). $5-$20 donations can go a long way and can be dropped off at the main office. (Checks can be made out to CCSD89)
No donation is too small! Parents or students can drop all donations off to the main office to Mrs. Mate or Mrs. Mullany. We will need all donations by December 13 so that we can get everything organize for the week before break.
Thank you so much for helping us make this week unforgettable for our staff. With your support, we’re sure to have them feeling merry, bright, and truly appreciated!
Glen Ellyn Junior Woman’s Club annual Christmas Baskets Sponsor-A-Family Program
The Glen Ellyn Junior Woman’s Club is excited to kick off their annual Christmas Baskets Sponsor-A-Family Program. Last year, they were able to support 150 families and seniors in need -- helping 650 people in the Glen Ellyn community. This year, all donated toys will go directly to more than 200 children from CCSD 89 and District 41.
To participate, please donate a new, unwrapped toy for a child between birth and 11 years old. They especially need books, crafts, gift cards, and other suitable items for tweens (ages 9 to 11).
Drop-off details: Place donations in the collection box at your school by Tuesday, December 10
Online shopping convenience: To make holiday giving easier, we’ve extended our Amazon Wish List. Feel free to shop online or consider supporting local stores.
Donations welcome: Don’t have time to shop? Monetary donations are welcome, and they’ll do the shopping for you! Donate here: https://bit.ly/ToyDonate.
