Book Checkout for Break!
Encourage your child check out at least 2 books! We have an excellent selection for independent reading and for parents to read aloud! Just ask your child's teacher or our Media Center teacher Mrs. Montplaisir if you need recommendation or ideas!
A Christmas Carol at The Guthrie
A wonderful theatrical experience for our 4th graders thanks to the support of our families and PAC!
Caroling Update!
Baby its COLD OUTSIDE! We are excited about this Friday, December 20th's caroling event but it will be cold! Please be sure your child has all of their winter gear as we intend to proceed with this event in the cold! We will use our recess guidelines of -10 windchill or 0 degrees. Right now, the forecast is to be a bit warmer than that, but not much!⛄⛄
Vocabulary Development
The average number of new words a child learns per day can vary depending on their age and exposure to language. However, research suggests that young children, especially toddlers, can learn anywhere from 2 to 5 new words per day.
It's important to note that this is an average, and individual children may learn more or fewer words. Factors like the richness of their language environment, the quality of the language input they receive, and their individual cognitive abilities can all influence their vocabulary growth.
To encourage vocabulary development in children, parents and caregivers can:
- Read aloud regularly: Expose children to a wide range of words and language patterns through reading.
- Have conversations: Engage in frequent conversations with children, using varied and rich vocabulary.
- Create a language-rich environment: Surround children with books, puzzles, games, and other materials that stimulate language learning.
By providing these opportunities, parents can help their children develop strong language skills and a robust vocabulary.
