Reminder no school November 27th-29th. Enjoy your Thanksgiving break and your time with family or friends.

Looking for some new activities to do with your 4K student? Each month you will receive a calendar with optional daily activities for families, created by our own 4K teachers. These calendars are posted on our website. Please check out our December calendar for some fun activities you may want to try with your child next month. Of course, there’s still a few days left in this month, so please see our November calendar if you missed it earlier. You can also find calendars on our website.

Each month, we will share the Helping Children Learn Newsletter with you. This newsletter is filled with parenting tips, fun activities to do with your child, and helpful resources. We have the newsletter available on our website in both English and Spanish. Please check it out! The current month and previous months can be found on the 4K website

Throughout the year students will be working with the Second Step Curriculum that teaches our students social and emotional skills for our youngest learners. I will be attaching parent home links that let you know what your child is learning in the classroom. Teachers will also be sending home links to the home links. Please know that not all classrooms will be teaching the same lesson at the same time.

Children naturally enjoy music, even at an early age. Teaming music and movement together can play an important role in a child’s development and has many benefits. You can read more in this article.

Waunakee Aquatic Center winter swim lesson registration opens Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:00 p.m.

Classes will begin on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are pleased to introduce a new resource designed to support the well-being of our students: the Virtual Calming Room. This online space provides tools for relaxation and mindfulness that can help students manage stress, anxiety, or simply take a moment to reset. The Virtual Calming Room includes calming music, guided meditations, breathing exercises, coloring pages, and soothing visuals that students can access anytime.

We encourage you to explore the Virtual Calming Room with your child and discuss how they might use it during times of need, whether at home or during the school day. It’s a great way to practice mindfulness and develop healthy coping strategies.

As always, we are committed to supporting the emotional and mental health of our students, and we hope this new resource will be a valuable tool for your family.

Notice to Families: Change in Crossing Guard Staffing at Woodland and Simon Crestway

If your child/ren do not utilize or live near the intersection of Simon Crestway/Woodland Drive, you can disregard this email.

We wanted to inform you that the Woodland Drive and Simon Crestway intersection near Waunakee Community Middle School will no longer be staffed by a crossing guard, due to a staffing shortage. Safety remains our priority, and we ask all students to exercise caution by using the traffic lights and slowing down when walking or biking through this area.

Thank you for helping us reinforce these safety practices with your child. Thank you for understanding and we apologize for this inconvenience.

We are excited to present to you a new method of reporting student absences in just a few easy steps. Effective immediately, parents and guardians can now use the Absence Request tool in the Campus Portal of Infinite Campus to submit an absence request for one or all student(s) to inform the school office in advance when their student is not going to be in school.

This is available for all Waunakee Community School District schools and all grade levels, 4K-12th grade. This feature can also be done on a desktop computer and a mobile device.
