Mrs. Mader's Message
Hello Westside families,
What a beautiful week of weather we have had! I am hoping it continues over Spring Break. If you and your family are traveling, I hope it is a safe trip filled with many wonderful memories. For those who are staying local over Spring Break, Mrs. Logick and Ms. Micke created a scavenger hunt for the Little Free Libraries in town. This is of course optional, but could be an amazing way to find some new books and explore our amazing local community on our days off of school.
I wanted to take the opportunity to make a quick announcement about some staffing changes for next school year here at Westside. Mrs. Lindquist (4th Grade) and Mrs. Owens (Reading Interventionist) will be retiring at the end of the school year. I can tell you with confidence that these two specatcular educators have been an incredibly large asset for the staff and students here at Westside. Nancy brings a passion for music, the outdoors, classroom discourse, and classroom community. Kari brings enthusiasm for helping each and every student not only know how to read, but also helps them fall in love with it. Both Nancy and Kari have been a cornerstone of Westside culture and while we are so sad to be losing them, we are excited for all of their adventures to come in retirement! With Mrs. Lindquist's position open, Mrs. Feyereisen will be making a grade level change and moving to 4th grade. She has done great work with our 5th grade students and we are excited to see her impact continue in a new way!
Finally, this week I wanted to share a couple of my favorite books for 2nd and 3rd graders in honor of I Love to Read Month. When I was in the classroom, some of my favorites to read alongside students were: The Wild Robot series, The One and Only Ivan, Crenshaw, Stargirl and Charolette's Web.
Sorry for such a lengthy update this week. Wishing everyone a fantastic, safe, and rest-filled Spring Break. We will see everyone back at Westside on March 24th!

Walk, Bike or Run; Reading is fun!!
No travel plans for Spring Break? No problem! This spring break we're bringing the fun around the Westside Community!
Some staff members have put together a Free Little Library scavenger hunt. Each Little Free Library listed on the sheet attached below has stickers in them. Each sticker is unique to it's Free Little Library!
Starting March 13th you are able to work on this scavenger hunt. Each child will receive a copy of the scavenger hunt in their classroom mailboxes. This scavenger hunt will be going on during Spring Break and will end on March 23rd.
The scavenger hunt is easy as 1,2,3...
Find a Little Free Library that is listed on the sheet.
Drop off, grab, or trade a book.
Take a sticker to put on your sheet. Make sure to throw your garbage away. (There is a baggie in each Little Free Library to put the backing of the sticker.)
Repeat steps 1-3 for as many Little Free Libraries as you want to around the Westside Community.
Return your sheet no later than March 28th to the Westside Library.
