The Smithtown Promise
The Smithtown Central School District, under the direction of Superintendent Dr. Mark Secaur, is proud to introduce, The Smithtown Promise. The new and exciting initiative serves as a strong reminder that each and every one of “our students has dignity, belongs here, has the capacity to make a positive difference and can excel,” said Dr. Secaur.
Meet the Teacher Nights
6th, 7th, and 8th grade parents attended our Meet The Teacher Nights on September 16, 23, and 25. Parents were given the opportunity to follow their child's schedule using a modified bell schedule. Our National Junior Honor Society students did a great job in guiding parents to classrooms all night long. Thank you to everyone who came out to support these important nights.
Go Gold for Childhood Cancer
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Great Hollow Middle School participated in Lace Up for Childhood Cancer Awareness on September 20, by wearing gold shoe laces, gold clothing, and accessories in support of those children who have cancer.
Honoring September 11
Eighth grade students in Mr. Olsen's class placed the flags along the driveway in honor of National Day of Service and Remembrance.
📖 Library News! 📖
September in the library was very busy! Students in sixth grade were welcomed to the library during the month with an orientation in both rooms of their "unique" library. Students completed a scavenger hunt in the fiction room, to familiarize themselves with the different genre sections that we have, and they were encouraged to borrow books. Students were also given an orientation in the "main" library, which houses all of the nonfiction books, including biographies.
Seventh and Eighth grade students have started to visit the library during English periods, to work on special projects, using Book Creator.
All students should be familiar with the SORA app, similar to the public library's Libby app. Students have access on any device to books, audiobooks, comics and magazines through this app. Please ask your student about it!
Don't forget to check out our library website for important information and links.
We look forward to a great year of reading, researching, and creating in our library and makerspace!

🎨 Clubs! 🏀
Many of our clubs have already begun to meet after school. There are so many clubs available to every student. Please have your child check the club bulletin board, located outside of Gym 100, for important announcements and for Google Classroom codes for each club. You can find additional information on our clubs HERE.
💻 Tech Tip of the Month! 💻
Each month, we will feature a different article having to do with technology and students.
Please take a look at this month's article entitled, A Back to School Tech Guide for Parents, from C Spire. It has some guidelines for great apps to use with your children as we navigate the start of the school year.
