Week 5
Thanks for another great week!
We had an array of athletic competitions this week and lots of team spirit associated with them! It's so nice to see the camaraderie and teamwork associated with representing our school. It truly is an extension of the social emotional growth that comes with being a middle schooler.
Last night we had our first Friends of MUMS meeting. At this meeting, we discussed our 8th grade trip, fall staff brunch and the Color Fun Run. Please see information below about how you can help with the brunch and fun run and stay tuned for updates regarding the planning of our 8th grade trip. Thank you so much to all of those caregivers who came and volunteered to support MUMS in various ways!
As always, have a great weekend!

From the MYP Coordinators
In their “Language of Geography” unit, 6th graders on Teams 1&2 have been really enjoying looking at actual road maps, working to find the coordinates for different locations, and measuring the distance between locations using the map scale. They also are learning how to productively collaborate with their classmates. This important work prepares students for making maps of a continent they create. Thank you, Ms. Lass and Ms. Cosgrove, for teaching our students such valuable life skills, and to our 6th graders for engaging so fully in this process.

Color Fun Run is on!
At last night's FOMUMS meeting it was decided that the Color Fun Run will happen again this year. Please stay tuned for communications from the volunteer team about ways that you can help make this happen!
Most importantly, if you are willing and able to help, please reach out to Dustin Hunt at dhunt@acsdvt.org.
Lost & Found
Five weeks in and our lost & found is plentiful. Please encourage your student to check our lost & found if they are missing something (Clothes, books, water bottles, etc.)
Picture Day
MUMS will have Picture Day on Tuesday October 1st. Order forms for LifeTouch will be handed out in TA the week prior. If you prefer to order your student’s school pictures online please visit mylifetouch.com and use the Picture ID EVTRF98G9. If you have any questions please contact Megan Curran at mcurran@acsdvt.org.
Student Attendance (absences/dismissals) and Bus Notes
- To report your child absent from school or notify us of an early dismissal please leave us a message on our attendance line by calling 382-1297 before 8:30 AM.
- If you send a student to school with an early dismissal note or bus note they should bring them the office before TA.
- All bus notes need to be stamped/signed by one of our Administrative Assistant's in the front office. Students will not be allowed to ride a bus to another location without a note from home that is stamped/signed by the office.
School Text Messaging System
Last Friday afternoon, we tested our district text messaging system. To receive texts, you must opt-in. If you think you signed up to receive text messages but did not receive one last Friday around 4pm, please contact your school to make sure your wireless phone number is in our student database. If you want to receive text messages you can sign up by Texting “yes” to 67587. You will get a reply confirming your registration. (If you ever want to stop receiving texts, just text STOP.) The district and school will only use text messages for important, time sensitive communication.
802 Smiles Network
Hi folks! Last year, ACSD schools participated in the 802 Smiles Dental Hygiene Program and this was very successful. I'm excited to share that we are once again partnering with dental hygienist, Michael Messina, to offer free dental screenings and preventative care to all ACSD students. There are three documents attached for families to download and review: a family letter, a SDF consent form and an enrollment form.
Help Improve our Volunteer Program!
Do you volunteer in our schools? Join Superintendent Wendy Baker for a discussion about how to streamline, strengthen, and improve our volunteer program at ACSD schools. We will schedule a time to meet this fall to gather your feedback. Interested?
