October Board Recap
The Mequon-Thiensville Board of Education held one special business meeting, one policy committee meeting, one legislative committee meeting, and one regular business meeting this month The Board also conducted two Office Hours/Referendum Q&A sessions, three PTO/Booster Club referendum presentations, and four community-based referendum presentations this month, in addition to representation and support at MTSD-hosted referendum information meetings/events.
October 7 Special Business Meeting
The Board approved a gift in the amount of $32,775 to Homestead High School from Leave a Legacy Class of 2024 Donors and PTSO Funds from 2023 and 2024. The HHS PTSO determined they would like to use the funds to purchase a concrete patio for the cafeteria courtyard.
The Board engaged in a discussion of the draft School Resource Program Memorandum of Understanding, led by Dr. Joynt.
The Board heard an overview of the Wisconsin State Report Cards, issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, from Sara Summ.
Sarah Viera led a presentation and discussion of the 202-25 School District Levy Certification and Budget Finalization.
The Board heard an update regarding referendum communications and engagement from Molly Loucks, Chief of Communications, and engaged in subsequent discussion.

Policies reviewed included: #0162 - Meetings - Quorum, #0142.1 - Draft Membership - Election/Appointment - Electoral Process, #0142.5 - Draft Membership - Election/Appointment - Vacancies, #6220 - Draft (New) Employee Benefits, #5511 Draft Dress and Appearance, #5451.01 - Draft Wisconsin Academic Excellence Scholarship, #5451.02 - Draft (New) Wisconsin Technical Excellence Scholarship, #2463 - Draft (New) Talented, Advanced, and Gifted Program.
October 22 Legislative Committee Meeting
The Legislative Committee engaged in planning and discussion around next steps in legislative advocacy.
October 28 Regular Business Meeting
The Board heard a September 2024 Treasurer’s Report from Dr. Mary Gavigan.
The Board heard a report from the SteffenENGAGE PTO.
The Board heard a Superintendent’s Report from Dr. Joynt.
The Board heard a Legislative Committee Report from Shelley Burns.
The Board took action to approve 2024-2025 October Budget Adjustments and to Certify the 2024-2025 Levy both with and without an approved operational referendum.

The Board took action to approve first readings of policies: #0142.1 - Draft Membership - Election/Appointment - Electoral Process, #0142.5 - Draft Membership - Election/Appointment - Vacancies, #0165.1 Draft Meetings - Notice - Regular Meetings, #2463 - Draft (New) Talented, Advanced, and Gifted Program, #6220 - Draft (New) Employee Benefits, #5511 Draft Dress and Appearance, #5451.01 - Draft Wisconsin Academic Excellence Scholarship, #5451.02 - Draft (New) Wisconsin Technical Excellence Scholarship.
The Board recognized monetary gifts in varying amounts to the Homestead High School Drama Program, DECA, Boys Golf, Boys Basketball, and Girls Basketball programs.

Open House & Community Info Session #2 Recap
We are grateful to all to who took the time to attend the Open House & Referendum Information Session at Oriole Lane Elementary School on Tuesday, October 15. Participants took a tour of the school, led by Principal Chad Sova, followed by a referendum presentation led by Superintendent Joynt and Sarah Viera, MTSD's Executive Director of Business Services & Operations.
