MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Franklin Students and Families,
It's hard to believe it's November 1st! Congratulations on completing the first quarter of the school year! Teachers will be working to post grades these next few days. Please reach out to your teachers or the main office if you have any questions about the grading period. I am so proud of our students. I see you! You work so hard on your academics, athletics, concerts, performances, and in uplifting and supporting your friends.
There is a lot going on this month from some extra time off for students like today and Monday. Also, there is no school on Monday, November 11th for Veteran's Day and the week of November 25th for parent and teacher conferences and the Thanksgiving holiday. The election on Tuesday is another important date for us to keep in mind. There may be some heightened anxiety and stress due to the uncertainty the election brings and also to everything we are exposed to on social media. I recently learned about Election Stress Disorder. It is a real phenomenon affecting people on both sides of the political aisle. This article shares 9 tips for how to cope with election stress that you may be feeling. Ultimately, it is important for us to be kind and compassionate with each other regardless of the outcome of the election. Please reach out to a trusted adult to talk about any feelings or emotions that are coming up for you.
This month also commemorates National Native American Heritage Month. Let us honor and celebrate our Native and indigenous students and staff this month and every day. About 2 years ago I was able to visit the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. This Smithsonian Museum is committed to equity and social justice for the Native peoples of the Western Hemisphere through education, inspiration and empowerment. You are able to visit their online exhibits anytime with this link. It is a wonderful resource for continued learning and understanding.
Last but not least, best wishes to our varsity boys' soccer team, who is hosting Mountainside at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 2nd in the first round of the state playoffs! Tickets for the match are available here.
Thank you and Go Lightning!

PTSA NEWS
"Create With Kindness": Free Digital Safety Event, Register Now!
On Wednesday, November 20th at 6:30pm, the Franklin PTSA is hosting an important discussion about social media, in partnership with TikTok and National PTA. This event is designed for parents and their students (aged 13+) and includes a presentation from TikTok, followed by a panel discussion featuring our very own Franklin teenagers. Our goal is to start a discussion within each family about how social media can work for them, without doing any harm.
The PTSA is providing FREE dinner from ¿Por Qué No? Taqueria (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and diary-free options included!), free childcare for siblings under the age of 13, and free translation services.
You will learn the latest about the safeguards in place to help protect teens -- including TikTok’s Family Pairing -- and get practical resources and tools. This event is open to teens (age 13+) and parents and caregivers. There will be door prizes for teens and adults and all teens in attendance who registered via the RSVP form will receive a swag bag and will be entered for a chance to win a pair of AirPods Pro 2.
