Stay Safe & Warm
Dear Families and Community,
I chose the snow globe background for this edition of The Tiger Stripes because that's exactly what it looked like outside my window on Saturday morning when I first started working on this newsletter. I know that since then many in our community have encountered (and continue to encounter) difficult circumstances due to the high winds and bitter conditions. I sincerely hope that you are warm and safe and doing what you can to take care of one another. We look forward to having your students back in school as soon as possible.
My best,
Wendy ❤️

Terra Linda School Improvement Plan Information
As I mentioned last time, our “Safe & Thriving” goal was built because there was a drop in the percentage of students who reported feeling safe, welcome and accepted at school, as measured by the student survey administered to 4th and 5th graders. (In spring of 2023, 85% of Terra Linda students reported feeling safe, welcome and accepted at school, which was a drop from 92% in 2018-2019.)
Our Behavioral Health & Wellness Team (Allison Henning, Student Success Coach, Taryn Scott-Wenz, Counselor, and Icythelle Winchell, Social Worker) have been working to do informal check-ins with ALL Terra Linda students this year to gather information about how they are feeling so we can gather information about how better to support them. This work is ongoing and building-wide.
If you are interested in learning more about this and other elements of our School Improvement Plan, please consider joining me for our Principal Chat on January 25th from 8:45-9:30 in the Terra Linda Library.
Concert to Support McKinney Vento Program
Seojin Ha, a sophomore at Sunset High School, has organized a concert to raise awareness about homelessness in our community. The proceeds of this concert will be used to support the needs of students served by the Beaverton School District McKinney-Vento Program.
The concert is called Music for a Cause and will be held on Friday, January 26th, at 5:00 PM, at Portland State University Lincoln Performance Hall (Room 75).

Terra Linda's New Food and Hygiene Pantry
Thanks to our community's generous support of our food and hygiene drive, we have been able to collect remaining items and create Terra Linda's first Food and Hygiene pantry.
We hope to sustain this pantry throughout the school year for Terra Linda families.
We will gladly continue to accept food and hygiene donations to support our families. If you have items you would like to donate, please send them to school with your students or drop them off in the office.
Any families who would like to "shop" in our pantry, please call or stop by the office.
Once again, thank you for your continued support and generosity!
Behavioral Health & Wellness Team Partners with Beaverton Education Foundation
We have an exciting opportunity right now to create a better learning environment for all our students, especially those with greater sensitivity to light and sound. We want to provide light covers for classrooms and have a set of noise-reducing headphones to any student who needs them. We're partnering with Beaverton Education Foundation to raise money for these items and the first $500 in donations will be DOUBLED with a match from BEF.
Please join us in supporting our Terra Linda Tigers to provide a more calming atmosphere and create a better learning environment for all. Thank you!
