Howbert Happenings

September 1, 2024
From Your Principal
Coronado Homecoming Parade
Join us at the Coronado Homecoming Parade to represent Howbert Elementary and our outstanding school.
Families would need to be at our staging area by 10:00. I will communicate the specific location of our staging area when that is shared with me.
If you are in the neighborhood when we conduct the drills, you may hear them broadcast through our outside PA system. In the broadcast, it will be announced as a drill, which is just practice.
October 23rd: Early Release in Support of Parent-Teacher Conferences
Please be aware that Wednesday, October 23rd, will be a half-day for all students in support of Parent-Teacher Conferences. Here are the key details:
· Early Release: Students will be released three hours earlier than their typical dismissal time. For [School Name], dismissal will be at [Time].
· Lunch: Lunch will still be provided before dismissal.
· Transportation: Buses will run their usual routes, but students will leave school three hours earlier than usual.
· Attendance: Please note that attendance still counts, so it’s important that your child is present.
· Pre-K: There will be no afternoon preschool classes on October 23rd.
Thank you for your attention to these changes. We look forward to seeing you at the conferences!
Parking In the Neighborhood
Thank you for being patient with the construction work at Howbert. We finally have all of our additional parking back in the front of the school.
If you utilize street parking, please be considerate of our neighbors, especially on Adams Circle.
Avoid blocking driveways or damaging property.
Thanks!
Howbert Elementary Safety Drills
We are required to practice safety drills throughout the school year. Each quarter we conduct a Hold, Secure, Shelter, and Lockdown drill. Each month we conduct an evacuation/fire drill.
Our first practice was on Monday, August 26th and both students and staff did an outstanding job.
Below is an explanation of each drill and an information sheet for parents with further explanation.
Attendance
Howbert Guiding Coalition (SAC)
The Howbert Guiding Coalition (SAC) is a team of staff and parents/guardians that meet bi-monthly to learn about what is happening at Howbert Elementary, ask questions, and provide input.
Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 25th from 4:00-5:00 in-person at Howbert or online via Webex (click here to join meeting).
We encourage and welcome your partnership in the Guiding Coalition.
Counselor Corner
I am so excited to be here for my 2nd year as the Howbert school counselor! My job is to support your child academically, emotionally, and socially. I provide regular classroom Social/Emotional guidance lessons, individual counseling, small group sessions, crisis intervention, and consultation with parents and teachers. In addition to the in-school work I do with students, I coordinate with outside resources and help with referrals for community services.
I am highly visible in the school and available for you and your child. Students can make appointments to come see me or stop by when needed. I encourage parents and guardians to reach out to me with any concerns they may have. Lindsay.Smith@d11.org or 719-328-2867

It is best to complete the application prior to visiting the school to volunteer.
