Giving Tree Project
The Roots and Shoots club at Marie Murphy is coordinating the Giving Tree project again this year. This project provides gifts for children from our community who are in need this holiday season. We are looking for volunteers to sign up to support a person for the holidays.
Want to help? It’s simple!
Sign up to sponsor a person - Use this link
Receive a wishlist of what they want
Go shopping for the items on your person’s wishlist
You can wrap your gifts or the Roots and Shoots member will wrap them for you!
Then, drop it off at Marie Murphy.
You can email Ms. Rachmiel with any questions concerning the Giving Tree project at rachmielj@avoca37.org.
Principal and Parent Chats!
6th and 7th grade: December 8th at 8:15-8:45am
8th grade: December 9th at 8:15-8:45am
PE Uniform Reminder for Monday!
Starting on Monday, November 29th, students should bring their Marie Murphy PE uniform shorts and shirt, clean gym shoes with laces, a pair of socks and deodorant in a canvas bag that they will use to transport their uniform to and from class on a daily basis.
Once it is updated with the MM info I will email you.
Coin Wars
The Marie Murphy coin wars is a friendly fundraiser competition between first period classes with the goal of raising the most money for charity. Every cent from a coin placed in your class's jar is worth one point. Every cent from a bill is 1 negative point!
Remember, coins are positive, bills are negative. The class that gets the most points in the entire school gets a pizza party. The grade that gets the most points gets a donut party.
Coin Wars begins after Thanksgiving break and it goes until January.
Safe2Help Illinois
Safe2Help Illinois
District 37 is participating in a statewide school safety program called Safe2Help Illinois. This program offers students a safe and confidential way to share information that may help prevent suicides, school violence, and other threats to student safety.
When unable to talk with a trusted adult, students can use Safe2Help Illinois to share concerns about themselves or others in a confidential environment.
Safe2Help Illinois has multiple ways to be reached.
A 24/7 helpline 844-4-SAFEIL
Text Safe2 (72332)
Mobile app on App Store or Google Play (already on District iPads 3rd through 8th grades)
Website (www.Safe2Helpil.com) and use their Tip Form
Email help@Safe2HelpIL.com
After submission, the entry will be reviewed by the Safe2Help call center. Next, the information will be shared with District 37 and/or local law enforcement depending on the nature of the report. This program is intended to encourage students to “seek help before harm,” with the goal of intervening and helping students before they harm themselves or others.
Safe2Help Illinois is available to all D37 students, families and staff. Here is a one minute child friendly video explaining Safe2Help.
Special Message - Video of Town Hall 2 Meeting and Important Survey
As we head into the Thanksgiving Break, it could be that you have some "down time" when you could take the time to watch the video presentation from our second Town Hall meeting on November 17. The presentation covers District Facilities, Learning Spaces, and Finances.
Most important is the link to the survey at the end of the presentation. If the strategic planning committee is to gather high quality feedback to inform the new strategic plan, many more parents and guardians need to complete these customized surveys.
The video is 30 minutes, but it covers very important topics that are essential to understanding current and future states of the district. You should feel free to pause it periodically and come back to it before taking the survey.
Click here for the video with the survey link at the end
Thank you for your consideration, and please feel free to forward this link to anyone in the community.
