The Walden Weekly
September 20, 2024
Hello Walden Families!
Walden students continued to enjoy the beautiful weather outdoors this week and we've been grateful for these many sunny days! We do our best to provide as much outdoor recess as possible throughout the school day to give children time to move and play.
We also wrapped up our Fall MAP testing and SEL surveys (3rd-5th graders). Results should be sent home in about two weeks.
Lastly, our LMC welcomed authors Ann and Ben Brashares today for our 4th & 5th grade students. They listened and learned about their new book, an alternative history novel full of action and suspense called Westfallen.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you on Monday!

Parent-Teacher Conferences - 10/24 & 10/25
Mark your calendars! Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 24th from 1:00-4:00 pm & 5:00-8:00 pm and on Friday, October 25th from 8:30-11:30 am. All DPS109 schools will hold in-person parent-teacher conferences this year with a virtual option for parents/guardians who are not available for an in-person conference. Parents will sign up for a conference using Sign-Up Genius. I will share links for all teacher sign-up forms on Thursday, September 26th, at 12:00 pm (noon).
It is best practice to hold one parent conference per child, to ensure that both parents receive the same information regarding their child’s strengths and needs. Therefore, I ask that parents sign up for one joint conference per student. If this is a concern, please reach out to me directly. We look forward to seeing all of our parents during conferences. Conferences are a discussion between parents and teachers. At this time elementary conferences do not include students and therefore we ask that children not attend the parent-teacher conference.
CALENDAR ALERT: Day of school added on Monday, March 3, 2025
Due to the unexpected cancellation of school following the recent storms on August 28, 2024, DPS 109 will have to make up that day of school on Monday, March 3rd, 2025. The Board of Education just approved the calendar change last night and it has been updated on our website today. Please plan accordingly.
DPS 109 at the Deerfield Farmers Market!
Tomorrow, DPS 109 will have a booth at the farmers market, which so happens to also kick off the Harvest Fest! We’re excited to have our superintendent join us, along with a few board of education members. There will be a coloring table, stickers, and an EyeSpy game. If your eye spies all the listed items, there may be a special prize! We look forward to seeing you there!
The Anxious Generation (Final Posting)
Parents and Guardians are all invited to join me on Tuesday, September 24th from 7pm-8pm for a parent event where we will be discussing information shared in the book, The Anxious Generation. Please see my email shared on Tuesday for more information. You do not need to have read the book to attend.
