Principal's Report - Phillip Reavis
Oakview Receives a Toshiba Grant
We are excited to announce that Oakview has received a $900+ grant from Toshiba to be used for the purchase of a weather station at the school. The weather station will collect data such as temperature, wind speed, barometric pressure, precipitation, and more. Second and fourth grade students, as part of their science standards, study weather and will be actively using the new weather station to extend their learning. The ONN crew also gathers daily weather data for their morning broadcast. Congratulations to Charnley DeMeritt, science lab teacher, for submitting the grant application!
American Education Week

Tuesday – Parents (Family Involvement) Day! Parents and teachers make a great team! Students will wear their favorite team shirt.
Wednesday – Educational Support Day! Salute to support staff: Students will wear red, white and blue to thank our staff for all they do.
Thursday – Hats off to higher education-students will wear their favorite hat.
Friday – Substitute Educator’s Day - Students will wear silly “socks for subs” to show our subs how thankful we are for them.
Recycle Your Gently Used Shoes
For one week only, November 13-17, Oakview will collect pairs of shoes to help those in need around the world. Containers will be available outside the main and kindergarten entrances to collect them. All shoes, new and used - except winter boots, foam flip flops, bowling shoes or any shoe with metal cleats, are accepted as long as they are in wearable condition - have no rips or tears, no worn soles. All shoes will be given to WorldWearProject whose mission is to distribute wearable, affordable shoes to third world countries while diverting millions of pounds of refuse from our landfills each year.
Virtual Reality Comes to Oakview
Oakview has added Google Expeditions to our numerous technology offerings for students! This amazing virtual reality system provides over 4,500 expeditions around the world and gives teachers narrated scripts to lead students through these life-like journeys. During the fall semester, teachers will begin integrating this cutting edge technology into their science and social studies lessons and next spring, a Google Expeditions Club will begin after school!
Letter from the PTA President
Oh my goodness! What a terrific time we had on Friday night here at Oakview! Thank you to everyone that came out in the beautiful weather for the Hootenanny! It was an awesome event and I cannot thank the Hoot Committee enough for all of their commitment, dedication, and direction! Be sure to say “Thank You!” to Tasi McClellan, Nina Patel, or Gina Pelino when you see them!
I hope that each of you and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for being a part of a school with such dedicated parents, loving teachers, and thoughtful administrators! Thank you for allowing me to serve alongside you this year!
Serving With You,
Jennifer Burns

Donuts with Dads - 4th & 5th Grades
Donuts for Dads for our 4th and 5th Graders will be held next Friday, November 17 from 7:15 to 8 a.m. in the Cafeteria! I hope that you will take this morning to enjoy a delicious donut and some special time with your child!
PTA’s Jingle Bell Drop & Student Council’s Coat Drive December 4 - 8
As many of you know, during December, we take toy donations to make Christmas for many much brighter! This year, we will continue to take up toys that will be donated to Toys for Tots; but, we are also joining with the Oakview Student Council to support their Coat Drive. Along with new toys, we will be collecting new or gently-used coats for males and females of all sizes, from babies to adults.
All donations will go to local homeless shelters in Greenville County. Student Council members will be working in both morning car lines to collect donations that week! Thank you so much for your generosity!
Box Tops
Elf Shelf
Elf Shelf, which runs December 12th to 15th this year, celebrates the gift of giving during the holiday season by providing students with an opportunity to purchase affordable, pre-wrapped gifts for their loved ones. Information will be coming home with your students in late November but please make note of the following:
- Gifts range in price from $1-$6
Gifts will be wrapped
Friday of that week is an “extra shopping day” where students who have leftover money can go back in to the store to buy additional items.
We will have a Sale Table on Friday – items from previous years are only $1 or $2
Siblings often buy the same gifts for family – if you are concerned about this, consider having a discussion with your students about how they can select different options
If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, do not hesitate to contact Michelle Smith or Erica Huffman at elfshelf@oakviewpta.com. Thank you!
