Benteen Media Center Updates

This Update will keep you abreast as to what is going on the in the Benteen Library Media Center, and possibly beyond. Hopefully, you will be able to find the answer to any of your questions that you may have for Mrs. Brightharp.

The Literati Book Fair is the new kid on the block and Benteen is excited to work with them for the first time this year. The online companion is now open, and will remain open until the last day of the in-person fair. Friday, September 30th is the first day of the Literati BF, and it will end on Thursday, October 6th, the fair will be open each day from 8:15a.m. until 4:00p.m.. We encourage the Literati Gift Cards because they help to alleviate the keeping up of little people's money. Our teachers will have their Wish Lists available at the BF. Parents can either purchase an item(s) from a teacher's wish list, or you can purchase them a Literati Gift Card. See you at the Benteen Literati Book Fair!

Every Wednesday, students can depend on their Google Classroom classwork being populated with questions to be answered by Friday of the same week. Students in Kindergarten through fifth grade are afforded the opportunity to predict which team will win the week's football game between the Atlanta Falcons and their opposing team. So far, we have had only one correct prediction. Students in second through fifth grades participate in the MMQ questions. These questions are designed for the participates to learn some interesting facts about the areas where the opposing teams are headquartered. To locate the answers, students are directed to the online resources found in the apps that can be found in https://mybackpack.apsk12.org.

Red, a picture book written by Michael Hall, is the APS Social Emotional Learning Book of the Month for September. Red is a blue crayon with a red label. When called upon to draw something that would normally be red, he colors it blue. When Red is called upon to color something blue, it is discovered that he is not red, he is indeed blue. This book is available in the Benteen Library Media Center, and the Fulton County Public Library. This book does have a quiz on AR. Please remember to include the time spent reading this book on Beanstack, our online reading log.

Benteen's students and staff have access to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution online newspaper Monday through Friday. This service is only available during the school year. To access the newspaper, the reader will need to login to https://www.nieonline.com/ajc/ , and enter benteen for the username and students for the password.

Looking for a free tutor? Well, let me introduce you to Paper. This program is a free online tutorial program available for all of Atlanta Public Schools' students. The app is available 24/7, all year long, by logging into https://mybackpack.apsk12.org. To log in, all the student needs to do is enter the name of their school, and we know that to be Benteen. Students get to interact with an expert tutor with a load of content knowledge. Paper has a built in data analyst piece that our teachers and our administrators can use with their work in educating the brilliant students at Benteen. During the month of October, log in to Paper and find out what this wonderful app is all about, and take advantage of this resource.
