Fall 2024 Panorama Student Perception Survey
Our Fall 2024 Panorama Student Perception Survey will be administered on November 7th. Students will complete the survey in Supervised Study within the window of November 7th - November 14th. Families will have the ability to opt out of the Panorama survey using this form. If you would like to see the types of questions in the survey you can do so at the following here: 6-12 student survey.
The survey covers: school safety, climate, rigorous expectations, teacher-student relationships, sense of belonging, cultural awareness and action, and diversity and inclusion. The survey data will help us identify areas of celebration and discover opportunities for improving students’ learning environments. As with all District assessment reports, district and school staff will maintain confidentiality and will limit access to individual data to administrators and appropriate school based staff to review feedback on the climate and culture within our schools.
Signs of Suicide Program- 7th Grade
As we continue our efforts to proactively support our students’ social-emotional health, D203 is continuing to partner with Elyssa’s mission, a nonprofit organization dedicated to suicide prevention, to implement the Signs of Suicide (SOS) Program and/or refresher in grades 6-12. SOS is an evidence-based program that incorporates two key suicide prevention strategies: a curriculum that raises awareness of suicide and mental health issues and a brief screening for depression and other risk factors associated with suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
The program is designed to:
Increase knowledge and awareness about depression;
Encourage students to seek help for themselves or on behalf of a friend;
Reduce stigma around mental illness; and
Engage parents and school staff as partners in suicide prevention.
On November 18th, 7th grade will be presented with the program.
The program will be facilitated by our student service staff who will engage students by showing the SOS video and leading students in a discussion about how to implement the key message of Acknowledge, Care, and Tell (ACT). Following the discussion, students will complete a brief depression screener, as well as a response card that allows them to indicate if they would like to speak to an adult about themselves or a friend.
The depression screener addresses thoughts and feelings a student may be experiencing that may not be evident to parents or teachers. The screener does not provide a diagnosis of depression but rather alerts school staff to students who need further investigation. Student services staff (social workers, school psychologist, or counselor) or a qualified community mental health partner will meet with any student whose screener indicates a need. Parents/guardians will be notified if their student is seen and provided with any necessary next steps which may include a referral to a community provider, the development of a school support plan, and/or the development of a progress monitoring plan with student services staff.
Additional information on Elyssa’s Mission, The Signs of Suicide program, and Suicide Prevention can be found by visiting www.elyssasmission.org or https://www.mindwise.org/parents/. Be sure to visit the parent page where you will find a video that outlines the warning signs of suicide and how to keep your student safe.
If you have any questions and/or do NOT want your child to participate in the SOS program and/or refresher, please contact Asst. Principal Lindsay Haymon at lhaymon@naperville203.org prior to the program date. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your student has permission to participate in this program.

The Mindful Minute
Why is Sleep So Important?
Fun Facts About Sleep:
Memory consolidation happens during sleep
Lack of sleep results in lack of working memory
The amygdala in the brain helps you process emotions from the day while you sleep
Lack of sleep results in an increase in the hunger hormone leptin
Trouble waking up on Mondays? This is a result of “social jet lag” from your altered weekend sleep schedule
Today, 75 percent of us dream in color. Before color television, just 15 percent of us did
Humans can survive longer without food than they can without sleep
Tips for Getting a Good Night’s Sleep:
Teens need on average 9.5 hours of sleep per night
Exercise 20 to 30 minutes a day
In general avoid the use of caffeine, large meals, and intense exercise close to bedtime
Relax before bed – try a warm bath, reading, or another relaxing routine
Don’t lie in bed awake. If you can’t get to sleep, do something else, like reading or listening to music, until you feel tired
The most important thing to do for sleep is to wake-up at a consistent time. Try to maintain a wake-up time within a consistent 15 minute window every day, even if you slept badly.

Lost and Found
Is your student missing something? There is a collection of items (coats, hoodies, hats, water bottles, etc.) in the Lost and Found. Students have been encouraged to check the Lost and Found station during their lunch period. Parents are welcome to come in before or after school to check for lost items as well.
We will donate any remaining clothing items on November 26th before Thanksgiving break.
