Madonna Catholic School News
October 11, 2024
Dear Madonna Families,
As we gather together with loved ones this Thanksgiving weekend, we are reminded of all the blessings we have. St. Francis of Assisi reminds us to be thankful for the simple things – the love of our family, the beauty of nature, and the joy of sharing with others.
Let us take a moment to give thanks for each other, for the laughter, the support, and the memories we share. In times of joy or difficulty, our families are our strength. Like St. Francis, may we be kind to one another, help those in need, and care for the world around us.
Wishing you all a blessed and peaceful time together. May we continue to grow in love and gratitude as a family.
With love and thanksgiving,
Madonna Catholic School Admin Team
Mrs Cathy Hinger, Principal
Mrs Fiona Wimmer, Assistant Principal

A great big THANK YOU to our parents who drop off along Malvern Drive in the mornings!! We have noticed a great response to our drop off lane. Thank you for taking the time to pull your car over to the side streets or along the soccer field to park your vehicle.
It is so awesome to see the kids independently exit their parents vehicles in the morning and walk themselves to their entrance door. Our RCMP partners will be popping by when they can over to help support this plan.

LEARNERS & LEARNING
Meet the Madonna Staff!
As we move through the fall we would like to introduce (or reintroduce to some families) our staff to our larger Madonna community.
Mrs. Bonsant is our school ibrarian and she is with us in the afternoons on Monday and Tuesday and all day Thursday. She has lived in Sherwood park with her family for over twenty years and along withher husband they have three wonderful adult kids who all attended EICS schools. They have a passion for french language as thi sis her mother tongue as well as giving back to the community - espeically in the form of rugby. There have been many weekends spent outdoors traing, coaching and mending rugby players over the years. Mrs Bonsant is welcoming, fun, dynamic and a keen observer of what kids like. If you even hint at an author or genre of book - she is on the hunt! We are grateful to have this wonderful colleague supporting our students and she is looking forward to meeting you in early November when the Book Fair takes place. Come and say hello!!
SYSTEMIC WELLNESS
As part of Read In Week we had a visit from the Edmonton Oil Kings who came to read to several of our classes last Monday. Pictured below is defenseman Landon Hanson.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Madonna will be having a Book Fair from November 4th to 8th!!
It will be open during the day but also during Parent Teacher evenings as well.
Your child will be getting a flyer sent home to help them to choose their books.
Keep your eye out for more info about the Book Fair!
Linking Generations
Linking Generations provides mentored and structured visits between seniors with youth to share knowledge and build relationships. This amazing program is fully embraced here at Madonna and we proudly have a grandparent matched to each our grade level homeroom classes. Pictured below are some of our recent experiences with two of our grandparent mentors.

MCS SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS
Parents are needed each week when hot lunch is offered in our school. Typically parents help from 11:20-12:45pm in the school kitchen where they sort, distribute and help pack up the weekly food order. Without your support the hot lunch program is not possible.
