October Newsletter
October Newsletter
As we near the end of another month together, I want to thank all the parents, students, teachers, and community members who have taken the time to impact our young learners. We are in the business of education, and to be well educated, it takes all of us caring for our students while giving them multiple opportunities to learn and grow. As research tells us, one of the biggest predictors of success in education, is a child's ability to read. I want to take this time to encourage all families to set aside time every day for reading with their child at home. Even 10 minutes a day of reading at home will have a significant impact on a child's reading development. As parent teacher conferences approach next month, I encourage you to ask questions about your child and their reading development. Talk with your child's teacher about their independent reading level and ask for ideas to support your child at home. I feel blessed to be part of such an engaging and caring community!
Sincerely
Mr. Miller

We will once again be using "sign up genius" to minimize wait times for each teacher, and make sure each family gets enough time. The link for signing up will be sent out on School Messenger on 10/29 @ 3pm.
6th Grade visits Kindergarten
The 6th grade students recently visited the Kindergarten classrooms to play a "Roll a Pumpkin" dice game and read together. They had a lot of fun working and learning together, and are already looking forward to the next visit!!
Fall Book Fair
Our school is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair from November 6-12. It will be open both evenings of parent teacher conferences (Thursday, November 7th and Tuesday, November 12th) in the FACE Room across from the library. Students will also have scheduled times that they will attend the book fair during school. Watch for more information being sent home soon. We hope to see you there! Please contact Sara Ebert, sebert@reedsville.k12.wi.us with any questions.
Kindergarten Pumpkin Patch
Students had an opportunity to select a pumpkin from our pumpkin patch thanks to a generous donation from the Gill family! 😊
Music Department Fruit Sale
The Annual Music Department Fruit sale is now in progress until November 4th. As in previous years, we will be using MinnTex as our distributor so the products will be of the same high quality. This year, as we try to reach out to as many patrons as possible, we have an online option to link customers to the website address:
https://sales.minntexcitrus.com/organization/reedsville-music-department/ to make purchases to support our students. We cannot ship individual orders. Students will be delivering all products in person. Delivery date is set for Friday, December 13th (pending weather conditions).
The profits earned from the sale are used for trips, camps, and many other amazing experiences as they continue to be involved in band and/or choir. Please support our students!
Emergency Bus Evacuation
Students practiced an emergency bus evacuation, and heard from the drivers on all the different ways they can exit a bus in the event of an emergency.
5th & 6th Grade Sports
Please see the attached document that explains the process of athletic paperwork through rSchool for students playing sports in 5th-12th grade.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month that includes Digital Citizenship Week - be a good digital citizen!
Not only do we want students to be handling their technology with physical care, but we also want our students to be good digital citizens by using technology safely, responsibly, and ethically.
We have processes, software and hardware pieces in place to provide cyber protection to our students and staff at school, but those safety nets aren't necessarily effective on phones or home devices. Open conversations with your children is the best line of defense...as the saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Talk with your children about what it means to be a good digital citizen. The following link is a fantastic resource for parents that offers conversation starters for all ages.

And as always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Free/Reduced Lunch Update
Reminder that the carry over period for some free/reduced lunch families ended on Oct. 16. If you received a letter stating that your benefits are ending, and feel like you still should qualify, please stop in the office for a free/reduced lunch application. Weekly Prize Winners
Each week on Friday, we will draw 3 winners of our weekly prizes. Students work hard to get their panther paws filled out during the school day. Whenever they fill their card of paws, they will get a sucker from their homeroom teacher, and have a chance to enter their paw into a drawing for a bigger prize. Please continue to encourage your child to work hard in school, follow the panther way, and keep getting their paw cards filled up.
Below the winners for the month of September!
