The Connection Week 2 Term 4
Huapai District School 27th October 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
“Fill your life with adventures, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.” – Unknown.
So often I find myself arguing with my children about device time. The necessity of “5 more minutes” or “I just have to get back to my den” definitely challenge my tolerance levels.
During the school holidays and over Labour weekend, I made it a mission to abort devices and get back to nature. We camped, fished, rode bikes, played with friends, spent days at the beach, explored rock pools and made it our purpose to spend as little money as possible and have the best adventures and stories to tell. The mission was a success. And guess what? There was no mention of wanting to use a device!
If you are wanting something to do device free - I can’t recommend the Te Henga coastal walk enough. Even if you walk part of the way and set up a picnic to watch the sunset with the family, it is a special place to do so.
At HDS we strive to fill school life with adventures and stories. There will be memories made here that will be carried forever in the heads and hearts of our children. From the smaller things like dress-up days to the larger scale memory makers like the musical and camps. It should always be about the things we do, not the things we have.
I would like to wish the team of Annie Jnr all the best for the performances next week. If you haven’t got your tickets, get in quick! The show is looking fantastic with the incredible work that has been put in.

What Might 2023 Look Like For Your Child?
As we move towards the end of the year, we begin the long process of finalising student placements for 2023. Each year we are funded by the Ministry of Education for teachers by the number of students we have. Then we best shape our class structure using these numbers.
Our 2023 school structure is as follows:
Year 1 - 3 classes
Year 2 & 3 composite - 5 classes
Year 4 - 2 classes
Year 5 & 6 composite - 4 classes
Year 7 & 8 composite - 3 classes
If you would like to provide any additional information that you think the school should consider when placing your child, please use the form linked below. Please use this official form instead of conversations or emails directly with your child’s current teacher or other staff members.
This form will close Friday 4th November.
If you are no longer intending to remain at Huapai School in 2023, please advise the school office (office@hds.school.nz) as soon as possible, so this can be taken into consideration when creating classes.
Leadership Booklets
If your child is currently working on these, the final date for submission of completed workbooks is the end of week 4 this term.
Sun Hats And Sunscreen For Term 4
It is our school policy that all students must wear a school hat during Terms 1 and 4 (from labour weekend) every year. Please ensure you are sending your child(ren) to school with a school uniform hat. These can be ordered through the School Uniform shop or purchased at the School Office.
Please also ensure you are applying sunscreen to your child(ren) each morning before they come to school. Summer is on the way and the sun is getting hot!
School Uniform Price Increases
We have been informed that there will be a price increase for the majority of our school uniform items, effective November 1st. The items increasing in price have gone up by $1 - $3 per item. Attached is what the new prices will be. If you were wanting to order any uniform before this happens, do so this week!
