MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
CHS Community,
This week ended on an incredible high note as our marching band and football players greeted students during arrival at CMS, Park, and Munson. I’ve already received several positive comments from building administrators, staff, and students who appreciated the energy and enthusiasm our students displayed. Be sure to check out the short clip above showcasing our band welcoming car riders into the building.
ADMININSTRATIVE RE-ASSIGNMENTS
This past weekend, the district announced a reorganization of the administration team. As part of these changes:
- Mr. Doug Higham will now serve as the lead administrator at Chardon Early Learning Center for the foreseeable future.
- Mrs. Andrea Ryan has been assigned new duties throughout the district, including taking on a more prominent role here at CHS.
Doug daily presence will certainly be missed at CHS. He has built strong relationships with students and staff during his time here and has been an integral part of our team. This is not a goodbye! Doug will remain active in the athletic department and will continue to be a valuable resource for me when it comes to scheduling and managing daily high school events—just as he has all year.
Importantly, nothing has changed regarding future plans. Doug will still transition to the role of Athletic Director next year.
Moving forward, I will be taking the lead on matters involving seniors. If you have any questions or concerns about this transition, please don’t hesitate to see me.
DRAMA PRODUCTION
Haven't a "CLUE" what to do this weekend?
Come out and enjoy our drama production "CLUE" performed by our talented students!

EMAIL FROM A CVCA SPECTATOR
This past weekend, I received the email below from a CVCA parent. It is a strong reflection of the outstanding character of our students at Chardon High School and the values instilled by our parents, Mitch Hewitt and his staff, as well as Melissa Lichtler and her team..
This message highlights the positive impact our school community has on and off the field. It’s moments like these that make me incredibly proud of our students, staff, and the culture we’ve built together.
Thank you all for your continued dedication to modeling and teaching the values that define us as Hilltoppers.
I am writing about the playoff game at CVCA last Friday.
It was such a hard fought game on both sides. But there was so much more.
Your band is quite impressive! Beautiful half time show. But what impressed me more was when they finished. The band sat on CVCA's sidelines while CVCA band took the field. Our first marching band, we are quite small but not too bad!
Your band members sat and watched the CVCA band. Not only watched, but cheered them on! They were swaying with the music, giving thumbs up, and cheering after each song. It would have been so easy for them to just ignore 20 kids in a new marching band, but they were attentive and encouraging every minute of the performance. And afterwards, both groups walked off the field together, some arm in arm. I am sure our band members appreciated the support! Well done! They have been taught well.
I know the outcome of the game was not what your boys wanted. It was a tough loss. But how they responded could not have been better.
I sat in the bleachers, as did all of us, and watched two teams come together in a circle, kneel, and with arms joined had a moment of prayer. CVCA boys and girls teams always end a game ( win or lose)
with a moment of prayer. For your boys to join in made it amazingly special. They are to be applauded for showing such character. Well coached!!
They may have lost the game, but they came away winners, and everyone took notice. Again, well coached. You can be proud.
CVCA parent ( 3 girls in the 90,s) and today a grandparent of 7 CVCA students
CHS Student Named Finalist in Lakeland Community College "Dollars for Dreams"
Chardon High School student Tallon Rice’s entrepreneurial talents were on display as he was named a top five finalist in Lakeland Community College’s Dollars for Dreams competition on Nov. 11.
The competition was open to all Lakeland students and Tallon, who pitched his business Fire & Ice pretzels, was the only high school student to be chosen as a top five finalist. Tallon, a junior at CHS, is a Lakeland student by virtue of his enrollment in College Credit Plus business classes taught by Mr. Al Herner.
"I am proud of Tallon's poise and professionalism in presenting his business in front of so many people, including the high profile judges,” Mr. Herner said.
Tallon has been developing his pretzel business since he was in second grade. He uses an original recipe created by his grandfather.
Tallon credits his mother as his biggest supporter throughout his business journey.
Through the competition, Tallon was awarded a cash prize of $375 as well as a membership to the Willoughby and Western Lake County Chamber of Commerce. He plans to put the prize money back into his business and plans to use the chamber membership as a tool for networking and access to facilities to grow the business.
