Miller Elementary Weekly Update
April 13, 2024
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families!
It sure was a soggy week, but we appreciate all the families who made it to our Kindergarten Musical Performances this past Tuesday! Your little ones did such an amazing job! We have video of the performances and we're working to format the videos so we can share them with each class very shortly!
This upcoming week we will be hosting our 2024-2025 Kindergarten Screening and Building Tours on April 16th, 17th, 18th & 19th! Most of our preschool families transitioning to kindergarten already know our building very well, so as a reminder we will be conducting your child's kindergarten screening during their normal preschool day. We will send home a copy of your child's screening report, important information about kindergarten, and some fun giveaways and photos too! If you have any questions once this information comes home, please feel free to reach out!
It's also hard to believe we are approaching the final 6 weeks of the school year. Kindergarten has an ABC countdown calendar that will begin this week, so please take a look in your child's backpack so you know what's ahead. There are a few days that you'll want to plan ahead so your child can bring something to school, possibly wear a hat or wear specials colors. Most of these special days are things we will do at school for the day! Our preschoolers will be participating in select days so stay tuned!
Two of the ABC countdown days involve a quick trip on our school campus. Our Kindergartners will be visiting Aurora High School and Craddock Elementary School. We are going to AHS to enjoy some stories and activities planned by our high school learners to teach our little ones about Earth Day. The day will conclude with a tree planting ceremony so that when they get to AHS, they can see the tree they planted as a kindergartner growing and thriving before they arrive! When we visit Craddock, your child will get a building tour, check out what it's like in first grade and prepare for the transition to a new school. Each event will last a little over an hour and will not involve lunch. We can't wait to share some pictures of these fun events!
I hope everyone enjoys the sunshine today!
Warmly,
Maria Goodman

Lucas and Jacob - Principals For The Day
Friday was a special day at Miller when Principals Jacob and Lucas helped to take over for the day! The Aurora Schools Foundation offers a variety of raffles at their annual gala and Jacob and Lucas were the lucky winners. We want to thank everyone for their support and contribution to the Aurora Schools Foundation. Lucas and Jacob did an amazing job keeping the school running smoothly. We have another special day ahead when Principal Keagan will take over!
Kindergarten Musical Performances
We want to thank Dr. Iriarte for a wonderful spring concert! All your children did an amazing job singing with their classmates and performing in front of a large audience. This can be a new experience for many and they did such an amazing job!
Welcome to Craddock Incoming 1st Graders!
Greetings Parents of Incoming 1st Graders!
As we begin the process of wrapping up the current school year, we can't help but begin to think about next year. Part of that process is the formulation of class placements. Class placements are constructed in a very particular manner, using data and input from the educational experts at Miller, Craddock and Leighton. We take many factors into consideration when making these decisions and feel it is very important that your input is utilized as well. You know your child best!
Although I cannot guarantee specific teacher requests will be granted due to a number of different factors, it is important to have as much information about each child as possible before the class list-making process gets underway. We recognize that parents/guardians are a valuable source of information to add to our knowledge about what works best for each child. Your information will be very helpful as we determine your child's placement for the 24-25 school year.
If you are interested in having some input, please fill out the following information and submit this form by Friday, May 10, 2024. Any feedback received after that date may not be able to be considered. You are also welcome to call or set up an appointment to speak with me specifically about your thoughts and concerns. I can be reached by email at kmstewart@aurora-schools.org or by phone at 330-562-3175. Thank you!

Extra Clothes
With the warmer temperatures this week, our students enjoyed some messy recess time! Although we make parts of our outdoor play areas off-limits, little children seem to find the mud from time to time.
1: Please make sure your child has a change of clothes in their backpack. This includes extra socks and underwear. They often feel more comfortable in their own clothing.
2: Our clinic is running low on pants. If your family has a pair of girls or boys pants that your child has out grown and you would be willing to donate to our school, we would appreciate any donations. Please send in washed items labeled "Extra Clinic Clothes" and we will put them to good use. Thank you!
Miller Parent Pick-Up and Attendance Reporting
This is a reminder that we are using our Miller Attendance and Parent Pick-up Form as an easy communication tool to report your child will be absent or you need to pick them up from school early. You still need to use the Alternative Bus Stop Form linked in this newsletter if you need your child's bus to change. You do not need to report if they will not be riding the bus in the morning due to an absence or illness on this form.
If you want to change your child from a bus rider to a parent pick-up, please scan the QR code below or click the button to fill out our Google form. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Wolf.
If you need an alternative bus stop or a change in busing, we also have attached the transportation forms to change your child's busing information. These forms need to be completed and sent to our transportation department at transportationinfo@aurora-schools.org
As a reminder, you can send in cash or check made out to the Aurora City Schools and we will add any amount to your child's lunch account. Please send in money in a clearly labeled envelope so we know to add this amount to your child's account!
