Senior Infants & 1st Class teacher
The school would like to thank Mr. O'Gorman who has taught in the class for the last few weeks and will be finishing on Friday, 25th October. We are delighted to announce that Ms. S. Whitty will be covering Ms. Swaine's maternity leave going forward. We wish her well in her new role!
Home-time
The carpark can be a very busy place as children leave the school premises. We would encourage parents, particularly those of younger children, to come and collect their children at the railing rather than having them cross the road by themselves. There have been a couple of instances where younger children have simply ran across the road without looking once they have seen their parents/guardians vehicle.

Non Uniform Day
Our first non-school uniform day was a great success with over €200 raised. This has been used to purchase ALPACA (Assessing Letter knowledge & Phonemic Awareness Class Assistant), an early literacy screener — a new digital tool that can identify those who may struggle to read, well before they can even read print allowing timely interventions to be put in place.
We will have 'Focus Pocus' on Friday, 25th October. Children can dress up in costume and make a voluntary contribution in aid of Focus Ireland if they so wish!
(Note: flyers & screenshots aren't translatable, so make sure to also include a text explanation)
Parents Association Update
The Parents Association AGM was held on 01st October 2024. The current Chair and Secretary are stepping down after 3 years in the roles. We would like to thank Michelle Warren and Christine Farrell for their work over the last three years. No nominations for these roles were received.
The Parents Association works with the principal, staff and the board of management to build an effective partnership of home and school. Further information on the role of the PA is available at npc.ie. Participation in the Parents Association is an opportunity to meet people, collaborate on fund-raising ideas and support the school staff and pupils.
If you would like to consider becoming a nominee for the role of Chair or Secretary or are interested in joining the committee or helping during the year please contact the school who will put you in touch with the PA. Please check with any potential candidates that they are willing to put their name forward before nominating.
Maths Week
Maths Week has been taking place in school this week. Pupils have been involved in hands-on activities throughout the week using our maths eyes to show how mathematics is all around us. Many thanks to Mrs. Murphy for organising and co-coordinating the activities for the week!
The Green School's Committee have also been informing the school all climate change this week as part of Climate Action week. Many thanks for their efforts and to their coordinator Mrs. Whitty
Food Dudes & Luches
Food Dudes is back in St. Colman's. The junior end of the school are in the midst of their 16 days of getting fresh fruit and vegetables delivered to the school. The upper end of the school received a 5 day refresher as they have already taken part previously.
Hot Lunches - Please go through the menu with your child and have your order in to Glanmore Foods before 2 o'clock each Thursday.
We ask for your cooperation with our school approach to Healthy Eating. We are very keen to promote a healthy lifestyle, something that will help the children to make healthy choices as they grow up. If you are sending in lunches or additional food, please check the Healthy Eating Policy (link attached). This outlines what a healthy lunch should include and food that should not be included.
Sport
It has been a great few weeks for sport in Ballindaggin! The boys are district champions following a comprehensive victory over Marshalstown-Castledockrell in the final. This followed on from victories over Buffers Alley, St. Aidan's Enniscorthy and Monagear-Boolavogue. They play the Roinn B quarter final tomorrow against Bunclody.
The girls are through to the Roinn A final after a stunning victory over Loreto Gorey yesterday. They too are unbeaten this year, achieving victories over Blackwater, Bree & Marshalstown-Castledockrell in addition. The final will take place on Wednesday, 23rd October in Bellefield at 5 o'clock.
Finally, the very best of luck to Caoimhe Wareen and Emelia Jordan who travel to the UK this weekend. They are part of a south-east selection who will take on such fabled names as Preston North End and Manchester United.Go n-éirí an bóthar libh!
