Behavior Team November Update
Each member of the behavior team has additional notes from our meeting and will be sharing the notes with their teams.
November Precise Problem Statement:
October behavior data for minor referrals was highest in the area of not following directions in grades K-6. There were 15 minor incident referrals total in grades K-6 which is an increase from September data.
November SMART Goal:
By December 3rd, we will decrease the amount of referrals for disrespect/defiance, specifically in the area of not following directions, from 15 to 10 incidents per month. By December 3rd, all grade levels will teach a minimum of two Tier 1 lessons per month focused on following directions. Special area teachers will teach one Tier 1 lesson in November.

Gradebook Reminders
Time to give your PowerTeacher Pro gradebook a check up! Take a moment to ensure your gradebook is set up properly and you are following DVUSD Grading Practices.
- Grades are based on academic performance and not behavior.
- At least one grade entry per week (unless the class typically meets less than 5 days per week)
- All assignments in the "Assessment" category have a least one standard tagged and scored.
- If a student completes an assessment retake, the higher score is entered in the grade book.
- Missing work is flagged with an "M" and a score of 0-49% is entered (dependent upon your school's practices)
- Late work that meets the criteria has the actual score the student earned entered in the gradebook (without added penalties or caps) and is flagged with an "L"
- K core teachers and all 1st and 2nd grade teachers: Have the Traditional Grade Calculations properly set (See SLIDES)
November Assessments
The second round of NWEA Map Growth and i-Ready Diagnostic testing will be conducted this month. This next round of testing is expected to take less time due to student and staff familiarity with the platforms and an increased understanding of the testing formats. The NWEA Map Growth Assessment is not a typical test. Students are expected to answer about 50% of questions correctly as they encounter some rigorous questions above their level. That is why the test is adaptive. On these more rigorous questions, teachers should coach students to give their best educated guesses and move on. Teachers can review the Student Resources Link to walk through a practice test with students, show videos on how the test works, or get ideas on what information they want to share with their students before testing.
Teachers are encouraged to take a look at the NWEA Frequently Asked Questions.
