Message from the Principal
Dear Central Road Families,
I’m back! Thank you to all of the students, staff and parents for the warm welcome back. I returned on Tuesday and the hugs, smiles and kind words made my day. I’m thrilled to be back to a school that I adore.
It has been a pleasure watching your children grow both academically and socially this school year. With the end of the year, come many fun events in the classrooms. On Friday, May 31 all of the students will participate in a PBIS Carnival. They will be able to use their CBG’s to participate in carnival games. Mr. Mauro and I will be in the dunk tank! Be sure to send your child to school with their CGB’s. It is going to be a lot of fun!
The PTA Fun Fair is the same evening. We hope you will come back as a family to enjoy the carnival games together.
A special thank you to all of the parents who planned the 6th grade party. The students had an incredible time celebrating their last year in elementary school.
If your child is missing any clothing items, please ask them to stop by our Lost and Found. We will be donating all of the items that are not claimed on Monday, June 3.
Mr. Wilke, our band director, is kindly asking that 4th grade students please turn in their blue cards in before the end of the year to join groups.
The last day of school is June 3rd for students in Grade 1-6. Our end of the year assembly will take place on the last day beginning at 9:30. We are inviting parents of 6th grade students to attend. Students will be recognized during our Awards Assembly. Parents of students who are receiving the Presidential Award should receive a letter inviting them to the event in the mail early next week. At the end of the day we will be dismissing students from our blacktop area. We will be sending off our 6th grade students as an entire school. Parents are welcome to join the send off by our park.
I hope you have an amazing summer filled with laughter, friends and family. I can’t wait to see everyone again next year!!
Sincerely,
Patti VanWinkle

4th Graders are Changing the World
Fourth graders in Mrs. Fior’s Social Studies Class are doing a project called “Change the World.” The students got into groups and decided some of the ways they can help change the world and then they put their plans into action. You will be amazed at all the ways they are making a difference.
One of the groups is collecting school supplies for children who may not be able to buy all the needed supplies. They are creating backpacks full of supplies for these children so they will be all set for the upcoming school year. They already wrote to Target, Walmart, Staples, and Meijer to see if they can get some donations. They also are putting bags outside each pod in the school to collect students’ unused school supplies left over from the year. (See the note below that one of the groups wrote to me to put in the CR newsletter.)
Dear Parents,
My friends and I are in Mrs.Fior’s 4th grade Social Studies class. Right now our topic is; Kids Can Change the World. We received an assignment where we had to think of a problem and solutions for it. My group thought that some kids can not afford school supplies and backpacks. My group thought that we could fill backpacks with school supplies and give it to kids who can not afford supplies. We are going to do this by asking stores, teachers, and parents for supplies, money, and backpacks. Please send your students to school with new or gently used supplies before the end of the year. Thank you very much,
Sincerely,
Jesse, Olivia, Bryan, and Sadie
Another group of students is raising money for “Fetching Tails”, an animal shelter where one of the students got his dog. They already raised a couple hundred dollars! They are even organizing a little table at the Fun Fair next Friday night, so you can hear all about their charity and donate if you would like to. There will also be another group raising money for Philip J. Rock Center for children with hearing and vision disabilities.
We also have a group collecting clothes for the “Community Closet”. So this can be a great time to go through your closet for clothes you would like to donate and send them to school.
This project will continue over the summer too. One group is holding lemonade stands over the summer to raise money to donate to their church to buy extra beds for the homeless that sleep there. These projects are just to name a few of all the wonderful things these 4th graders are doing for our community. We are so proud of them! These students will share their “Change the World” projects at the beginning of next year to Mrs. Fior’s next class to keep the tradition of making a difference going. We are so proud of these 4th graders for “Changing the World”.
