CMS Families,

December is already off to a great start! We've had a busy week with basketball, parades, and our CMS Theatre group touring the elementary schools! The next two weeks are sure to fly by! As always, thank you for partnering with us to make CMS the very BEST!

CMS will reset dress code expectations upon our return in January. During the first semester, we primarily provided warnings, reminders, and opportunities for students to self-correct. Moving forward, CMS will strictly adhere to GCISD's established dress code guidelines and apply appropriate consequences for non-compliance. We ask families to partner with us in ensuring students follow the dress code to minimize disruptions to the school day and maintain a focus on learning.

Our most common infraction during the first semester was inappropriate length of shorts and skirts. As a reminder of expectations the GCISD Dress Code is linked below.

GCISD Dress Code

Any infraction addressed will be documented in Skyward using the following parameters:

● First infraction: Warning, student makes a change to meet dress code standards, and then may return to class.

● Second infraction: Consequence given (detention or similar), student makes a change to meet dress code standards, and then may return to class.

● Third infraction: Consequence given (1 day of ISS), student makes a change to meet dress code standards, and then may return to class.

● Subsequent infractions may be addressed as persistent misbehavior pursuant to the GCISD Student Code of Conduct.

Dear Parents,

This week, our students completed the I-Ready Math Middle of Year (MOY) Diagnostic. This important assessment helps us understand each student's progress in math and identifies areas where additional support may be needed.

Next week, students will take the I-Ready Reading Middle of Year Diagnostic, which will give us valuable insights into their reading skills, including comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. These diagnostic assessments are key in helping us provide tailored instruction to meet each child's individual learning needs.

Please be sure your child comes to school Monday with a charger and their chromebooks charged for testing on Monday.

Every week our staff members have the opportunity to nominate one CMS Student to receive a Colt Pride Award. These students have demonstrated at least one of our Colt Pride Values: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, Excellence! Way to go COLTS!

GCISD is partnering with Recovery Resource Council to bring Drug and Alcohol prevention curriculum to middle school students during the 2024-25 Spring semester. As approved by the GCISD Student Health Advisory Committee, sixth graders will receive eight lessons using Life Skills Training curriculum during PE/Pre-Athletics, and seventh and eighth graders will each receive one Drug & Alcohol Prevention lesson. All students will participate in this program unless a Parent Opt Out is received. If you need a paper copy of this, please contact your Student Advocate. SPELLING BEE

Special thanks to Spelling Bee Chairs, Lindsay Harrison and Stacee Nordell for coordinating the 2024 CMS Spelling Bee with CMS teacher Julie Robles. 32 students participated and battled out 28 rounds! This year’s Winner is Azur Noorani (7th), Runner Up is Luna Lee (6th) and Third Place goes to Maira Khan (7th). Congratulations to all our participants! We are so proud of you!!👏🏻

CMS SHOUTOUT

CMS students are required to wear their school issued ID every day. If they forget their ID at home they should report to the office to receive a temporary ID. On the 3rd Student ID infraction students will be assigned a lunch detention.

If your ID is lost you may purchase a new one in the front office for $5 (cash only)
