Happenings at the Hive
November 8, 2024
Dear Solon Stinger Families,
We are excited to share another wonderful construction update in this week’s newsletter! We are thrilled to announce that construction on our gym is now complete! This week, our students had the chance to use the new space, and it’s already becoming an incredible addition to our school. Whether for physical education, school events, or recreational activities, this new gym will be a central part of our students' experiences for years to come.
We look forward to many more exciting moments in our new gym and beyond! We will see our third grade families next week for our first music program in our new space.
Yours in learning,
The Solon Robinson Elementary Team

Congratulations to our Robotics Team on their competition last week. Team B made the top 10 and made it to the finals! Great work, Team!

During the week of November 18, your student will bring home their individual student report detailing their performance. More information about the reports and ILEARN Checkpoints is available on our website.
What's Happening in Third Grade?
Mrs. Baechle's Class
Pumpkin Day in 3rd grade was so much fun! Students did a taste test with 4 different pumpkin treats, designed and wrote about their pumpkin, and did a math investigation measuring height, weight, circumference, and counting seeds. It was a great day!
Mrs. Coil's Class
Mrs. Coil's class has been participating in several fun activities over the last few weeks:
Pumpkin Day
We had a wonderful time learning about pumpkins. We learned about their life cycle. We also learned to make predictions and to use Math tools to help us weigh and measure our pumpkins. Finally, we had a delicious taste test and graphed our data.
Halloween
We had a spooky time during our party. We ate yummy food, played Four Corners, completed an Escape Room, and watched Spookley the Square Pumpkin.
Playground Pictures
We were all so excited when we were able to finally play on our amazing new playground. It was the perfect day with the weather.
Mrs. Filkins's Class
Mrs. Filkins's class has enjoyed many fun activities this fall: Their Unit 1 culminating tea party activity, a field trip to the Shedd Aquarium, and Halloween.
Ms. Smith's Class
Miss Smith’s class learned about the Election Process on Monday. Afterwards, the class participated in a mock presidential election! The presidential candidates were characters from a story the class read throughout Unit 1 of CKLA, The Wind in the Willows. The class had to decide who would make the best president — the irresponsible Mr. Toad, the caring Mr. Badger, or the responsible and skillful Mr. Rat. Based on the popular vote, Mr. Rat was elected!
Stinger Ticket Winners!
Congratulations
The students pictured below are proud recipients of Stinger Tickets, awarded for their exceptional behavior and acts of kindness in the cafeteria. These students have gone above and beyond to create a positive and respectful environment, setting a great example for their peers. Let's celebrate their efforts and continue to spread kindness and good manners throughout our school community!

Introducing Beekeeper of the Month Initiative
We are proud to partner with Julie Bodamer and Julie Rivera on our newest initiative, the Beekeeper of the Month program. Each month a character trait will be designated with a definition. Each classroom teacher will choose one (1) student from their classroom that embodies that specific trait during the month. The chosen Beekeeper of the Month will have their names recognized over the announcements, receive a certificate to document their achievement, along with a Beekeeper of the Month magnet added to the outside of their locker and a small token of appreciation from the PTO. Our hope with this program is to partner with staff and families to promote positive behaviors in the lives of the students.
The November Character Trait is CITIZENSHIP. More information will be coming home next week on how to form a 'home connection' with this initiative. We are so excited and look forward to the success of this program.
