CompSci Weekly
October 7 , 2024 - October 11,2024
Principal's Message
Dear CompSci Middle Community,
I hope you enjoyed the week, with a taste of fall in the air. One of the teachers said "October is Octobering" which is really true. The leaves are changing and the kids are are now into the part of the curriculum where things get challenging. The assessing is done, the review of last years concepts is done, and now it's new learning. We usually see an uptick in behaviors becuase of this, and this year was no exception. Please know that we have high expectations for our students in terms of behavior. If we are calling you with an issue, it is important! We spend a lot of time working with the kids on how to productively solve problems with our Restorative Team, admin, guidance and well, all the adults in the building! We understand that this is part of middle school and we are well prepared.
In this newsletter there is a flyer for STEM Night. I am holding our first PTO meeting that same night at 5:30. Please join us if you can. I will send out a zoom for the meeting the day beforehand.
Additionally, our search for the Hartford Parent Senator is over! We have two candidates and one has asked to be the alternate. so, your Hartford senator is Kadian Harris. Here is a little info about Kadian:
"My name is Kadian Morris and I decided to apply for the position of Hartford senator because I live in Hartford. I believe that because of my experience of being both a resident and employee of Hartford makes me a qualified candidate of such an important position. I have one son that attends this school which serves as my interest for wanting to represent and serve my community. My aim is that by getting this opportunity, I will reflect the needs and desires of Hartford for this school going forward. "
Our alternate Hartford Senator is Luz Serrano. I am confident that these two will be a great addition to the Parent Senate!
That's all the news for this week.
Enjoy the weekend,
Jill Wnuk

CREC’s Statement of Diversity and Inclusion
“Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is an intentionally diverse social justice organization whose members work to acknowledge, respect, and empathize with people of all different identifiers, such as race, socioeconomic status, gender identity and expression, education, age, ability, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, language, nationality, and religion. In accordance with CREC’s mission of equity, excellence, and success for all through high-quality educational services, our staff and students commit to participate in and support ongoing equity and inclusion programming through curricular and co-curricular offerings, professional learning, and local and national partnerships. Moreover, CREC staff and students strive to understand and confront the symptoms and causes of systematic oppression—ranging from implicit biases to micro aggressions to discriminatory policies, practices and traditions—that benefit privileged groups. While at CREC, staff and students commit to affirm and honor the lived experiences of others, to willingly challenge inherited beliefs and ideologies, and consequently learn, grow, and serve.”
