Gr 4-5 Early Literacy Essentials

Join Carrie Fromm for this Fall 2024 workshop series showcasing the Grades 4-5 Literacy Essential Instructional Practices in partnership with COPESD. We will be covering all ten Grades 4-5 Literacy Essentials throughout the 2024-2025 school year. These sessions will be particularly helpful to brand new teachers or teacher new to using research/science informed practices in literacy.

Below you will find the dates, times, and registration links for all ten workshops. Please register for all workshops you would like to attend individually.

All sessions will be held virtually. One (1) SCECH credit available. You must sign-in with link provided at the time of the workshop and attend the entire hour workshop to earn credit.

Join us as we explore Literacy Essential 2 from the Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy 4-5. Discover ways in which intentional, research-informed instruction using increasingly complex texts and tasks that build comprehension, knowledge, and strategic reading activity can benefit all students. This session will be held virtually. One SCECH available- must attend the entire hour to earn credit.

Join us as we explore Literacy Essential 3 from the Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy 4-5. Discover ways in which small group instruction can benefit all students. This session will be held virtually. One SCECH available- must attend the entire hour to earn credit.

Join us as we explore Literacy Essential 5 from the Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy 4-5. Discover ways in which the discussion of the ideas in texts and how to construct text meaning across texts and disciplines can benefit all students. This session will be held virtually. One SCECH available- must attend the entire hour to earn credit.

Join us as we explore Literacy Essential 6 from the Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy 4-5. Discover ways in which research-informed and standards-aligned writing instruction can benefit all students. This session will be held virtually. One SCECH available- must attend the entire hour to earn credit.

Discover ways in which intentional and ambitious efforts to build vocabulary, academic language, and content knowledge can benefit all students. This session will be held virtually. One SCECH available- must attend the entire hour to earn credit.

Join us as we explore Literacy Essential 8 from the Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy 4-5. Discover ways in which abundant and diverse reading material, including digital texts, and opportunities to read in the classroom can benefit all students. This session will be held virtually. Join us as we explore Literacy Essential 9 from the Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy 4-5. Discover ways in which ongoing observation of children’s language and literacy development that informs small group and individual instruction can benefit all students.
