What an incredible showcase of talent at our Davis Dragon Talent Show! A heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTO and dedicated teachers who organized this wonderful event. Your hard work behind the scenes made it possible for our students to shine so brightly on stage!
From beautiful singing voices to impressive dance routines and talented musicians, the Davis Dragons brought their very best. Each performance showed creativity, courage, and the special spark that makes our school community so unique.

Educator of the Year Banquet
We were honored to celebrate the nominations of Mona Carlson for the Educational Service Award and Griffin Kelly Early Educator of the Year Award. We couldn’t be prouder!
Attention 4th-Graders! Get Ready to Join the Band!
Have you ever wanted to learn a band instrument? You're in luck, because all 4th-graders will have the opportunity to try out the band instruments in late May! These instruments include the flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion. Students will be able to try the instruments under the supervision of the band director to decide if they would like to join the program next year. All instruments are sanitized between individual students.
The band program pulls students once per week for a 40-minute small group lesson during the school day. These lesson times rotate each week so that the same material isn't missed from the classroom. Band students will also be committing to one morning rehearsal per week before school. These morning rehearsals are a mandatory part of the program, and parents must provide transportation to school on these mornings.
If you would like to opt out of trying the band instruments, please fill out this brief form.
We look forward to exploring the many band instruments with your child soon! If you're interested in learning about the instruments and seeing some videos, please visit our recruitment website HERE. If you have questions about the program, please contact your school's band director: david.basich@d303.org
Important Reminder: Classroom Beverages
We'd like to kindly remind our Davis community about our classroom beverage policy. Students are welcome and encouraged to bring water bottles to class to stay hydrated throughout the day.
However, please note that outside drinks from establishments such as Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, and similar vendors are not permitted in classrooms. This helps us maintain a focused learning environment and prevents potential spills of sugary beverages that can damage our classroom materials. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain our classroom standards.
Teacher Appreciation Week - Thank You!
Dear PTO Members and Davis Families,
The entire Davis Staff wishes to express our deepest thanks for your wonderful Teacher Appreciation celebration. The classroom books, delicious meals, beautiful flowers, heartfelt notes, and the special Teacher Truck visit made us feel truly valued. What matters most isn't just the gifts, but knowing our community recognizes the work we do each day. You made us feel celebrated, appreciated, and wonderfully spoiled! Your thoughtfulness and generosity mean the world to us.
With sincere appreciation, The Davis Staff
🧑🏻🤝🧑🏻👭 Fabulous Friends !! 🧑🏻🤝🧑🏻👭
Kindergarten students went to Red Oaks Nature Center in Batavia!
Students learned about one of our most common mammals, the Squirrel. Students used hands-on investigation skills while being led on a hike by our friends Gray Squirrel and Fox Squirrel. As we hiked through the woods, students were asked to search for everything a squirrel needs to survive: food, water, shelter, and space. At the end, students determined that Red Oak can support a healthy and happy squirrel population!
1st Grade Field Trip
1st grade had a great time at the Brookfield Zoo! We saw so many different kinds of animals and enjoyed the beautiful day. Thanks to the Davis PTO for their contributions to our memorable field trip!
Stanley Support and Dog Safety Reminders
Davis Staff and Students have so appreciated and enjoyed having Stanley the Golden Retriever and his handler Mrs. Von Hoff visit Davis this school year. Mrs. Von Hoff is a retired teacher who has trained Stanley as a Therapy Dog. Stanley has greeted students on Monday mornings, visited classrooms and performed some of his many tricks for Dragon Days, and has also been a reading companion for kindergartners. In fact, Stanley has become very popular and students are eager to greet him whenever they see him at school or even walking around the neighborhood. With that in mind, Stanley and his handler have a few safety reminders about all pets that we want to share with Davis families:
Be aware of your surroundings - do not cross a busy or unsafe area (street, sidewalk) to approach a dog you would like to pet. Make sure to have parent or teacher permission 1st!
Before getting close to the dog, ask the owner if it's okay to greet or pet their dog. There may not have enough time to stop and visit, or the dog may be tired or unable to visit right now.
Please wait your turn, as too many friends can be unsettling for the dog. Listen to the dog’s handler and be very gentle and avoid loud noises.
Stanley and Mrs. Von Hoff have been so glad to be a part of our Davis community this year! They have made many new friends and look forward to seeing students at school and beyond with these guidelines in mind. Thank you!!

5th Grade Clap Out Invitation
Date: Thursday, May 29, 2025
Time: Starts promptly at 2:50 p.m.
Location: Davis Elementary (outdoors)
Dear Fifth Grade Families,
It is hard to believe that in a few short days our 5th graders will be incoming 6th graders! We are so proud of all of the hard work they have put in this school year and are working on ways to celebrate their elementary years.
We would love to extend an invitation to all fifth grade parents and families to our 5th Grade Clap Out. This special celebration marks an important milestone in your child's educational journey.
Clap Out Route and Formation
The students will:
First walk through the school hallways where students and staff will cheer them on
Exit through door 10 facing Horne Street
Walk around the kindergarten blacktop area
Continue around the building, entering through door 21 off of Seventh Street
This route is similar to our Halloween parade route. Please refer to the map for designated parent viewing areas.
Important Reminders
No gifts/balloons during the clap out. Please wait until after school for these items.
No pets or animals are allowed on school grounds during the clap out, before or after.
Transportation changes should be communicated to the main office with advance notice, preferably before the last day of school.
Bus riders: Balloons are not permitted on buses as they impair driver visibility.
Class photos will be taken during the day and shared by your child's teacher. We will also have lawn signs celebrating the fifth graders on the lawn at Seventh St and Horne. Please avoid the Davis sign at dismissal since we will be loading buses at that time.
We are looking forward to celebrating this special milestone with you and your child!
Warmly,
Gina Shaw
Principal

News From the Nurse
MEDICAL FORMS AND MEDICATION
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe there are only a few weeks of school left! This is a reminder that you will need to come to school to pick up your child's medication by the last day of school which is Thursday, May 29th.
- Medications that are not picked up at the end of the year will be disposed of according to the D303 policy.
- This policy also does not allow medication to remain in the health office over the summer for reuse in the fall.
- Medication must be picked up by a parent or adult designee with the parent’s permission.
- If a Medication Self Carry/Administration form was completed, meds will be sent home with your child in their backpacks. That is only for inhalers, Epi pens and topical creams. Any pills or liquids still need to be picked up by a parent.
Looking ahead to the 2025-2026 school year, if your child requires medication or any action plans, your child will need new physician orders and action plans for the school year. Ideally have the physician date the forms following the last day of school. Forms can be found under health services on the D303 site or linked directly here:
All forms will need to be completed in full before any medications can be administered.
Kindergarten and 2nd grade students require a dental examination and form completed within 18 months prior to May 15th, 2025. A vision examination and completed State form is also required for incoming kindergarten students as well as a physical examination and a record of all immunizations.
These forms can be submitted to the main office or emailed to the school nurse. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Thank you!
