FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Edison Families,
Wow—what an incredible night we had at our Open House last week! Our school was absolutely bursting with energy, pride, and joy as students took the spotlight and proudly shared their amazing work with all of you. The excitement was contagious—you could feel it in every classroom!
From the moment families walked in, it was clear this was more than just a showcase—it was a true celebration of our students' growth, creativity, and achievement. Every grade level and every classroom reflected the unique style of our dedicated teachers and the incredible talents of our learners. Each space was inviting, vibrant, and full of wonder.
What made the night even more special was how clearly the three pillars of our Dual Immersion program came to life:
🎓 Challenging Academics were on full display through interactive science experiments (yes, parents joined in!), impressive math problem-solving, and thoughtful projects across all subjects.
🗣️ Bilingualism and Biliteracy shone brightly through expressive writing, persuasive essays, poetry, and engaging reading material—all beautifully presented in two languages!
🌎 Socio-Cultural Competence radiated through colorful cultural artwork, meaningful social studies presentations, and a jaw-dropping wax museum that brought history to life.
It was truly a night to remember. Watching students glow with pride and families light up with admiration reminded us all why we do what we do. Thank you for your endless support, for your partnership, and most of all—for sharing your wonderful children with us. They are remarkable, and it was an honor to celebrate their achievements with you.
With heartfelt appreciation and joy,
Directora Ipiña
SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
STATE TESTING COMPLETED!
Except for a few students we have completed state testing this year! We are proud of the hard work our students put into showing what they know in this format. Remember, standardized tests are just one measure of student progress, and that not all students show their best in these formats. Still, they help us track students and our school over time. Scores are usually available at the end of summer. You should receive a score report in the mail and they will be in Aeries under State Test Scores.
WEDNESDAY PARENT MEETING - ROOM REP APPRECIATION BREAKFAST
This Wednesday, we are excited to host a special event in the Multipurpose Room to express our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful Room Reps. These dedicated parents went above and beyond this year, taking on the important role of coordinating classroom activities.
From sharing information and answering questions to organizing field trips and special events, their support has been invaluable. We are deeply grateful to each and every parent who stepped up to help.
Thank you for your time, energy, and commitment—your efforts have made a meaningful difference and allowed our teachers to stay focused on what they do best: teaching!
Congratulations Multilingual Learners
We will be celebrating our Multilingual Learners who reclassified this school year! Families of students who were reclassified this school year will receive a personal invitation to this event.
There will be an award ceremony in the auditorium, and following the ceremony a light lunch outside the auditorium on the patio by the Cafeteria. Parking is available in the Staff Lot off Chelsea Ave
5TH GRADERS NOT GOING TO JAMS?
If your child is currently in 5th grade and they will NOT be going to JAMS, please notify Melina in the front office so she does not send the cum to the correct school (melinagarcia@smmusd.org).
DISTRICT ANNOUNCEMENTS
DISTRICT IMMIGRATION POLICIES
At SMMUSD, we want to reassure our families that our schools are—and will always be—safe, supportive, and welcoming spaces for every student, regardless of immigration status. Every child has the right to a quality education, and we are committed to protecting that right by ensuring that all students can learn without fear or discrimination. We do not collect or share information about immigration status, and we prioritize your family’s privacy and confidentiality. Our safety plans and resources are here to support you, and we encourage families to keep emergency contacts and pickup information current so we can stay connected and responsive to your needs.
