Starting Monday, October 7th, we will begin our month long celebration of Red Ribbon Month! The theme for is “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free." Red Ribbon month is a month where people, schools, and communities unite and take a visible stand against drugs. During HEART class students will focus on healthy habits and choices. Students will pledge to live a drug free life. We encourage students, staff, and our community to wear red every Monday this month. In addition awareness bracelets will be passed out and we will be holding our poster challenge!

Parade: A short "Halloween Parade" will take place beginning at 10:00AM on Thursday, October 31st. Weather permitting, we will parade out door #17 and around the building. Our kindergarten students will lead the parade around each classroom and then out around the building. All are welcome to come and watch our costume parade outdoors!

Classroom Activities: Classrooms/grade levels may be planning for Halloween activities and celebrations individually, either before or after the parade. If teachers request parent volunteers to help facilitate the classroom activities, all volunteers will have to submit a Background Check at least 48 hours prior to volunteering.

Costumes: Students may come to school in costume on Thursday, October 31st. They can stay in costume for the duration of the day. Costumes need to be school appropriate and cannot depict violence or excess blood/gore. No fake weapons are allowed in school (i.e. toy guns, swords, blades, etc). Costume masks can be worn for the parade only, but not throughout the day. For costumes that have short skirts/shorts, leggings or pants need to be worn underneath.

1. Masks are not to be worn in school or during the parade.
   
2. HEAVY makeup is not to be worn (light makeup only-eyeshadow, painted freckles, rosy cheeks, etc.). All makeup must be done at home and stay on for the entire day.
   
3. Glitter and fake blood are not to be worn or brought to school.
   
4. Fake or real weapons are not to be brought to school, i.e., swords, guns, knives, daggers, and the like.
   
5. Inappropriate costumes are not to be worn to school. Please choose costumes that are positive and/or represent a good role model for our students.
   
6. No roller blades, roller blade shoes, skateboards or scooters.
   
7. No bare midriffs.
   
8. Please use common sense and good judgement when sending your child to school on October 31st.
   

On Tuesday, 10/31, weather permitting, parents are invited to line the parking lot and blacktop around the building to watch our students proceed by in a short costume parade on Halloween. We will begin picking up the students in their classrooms at 10:00, and will proceed out of Door #1.

Families- Please keep the sidewalk and blacktop area closest to the building clear around the building, but feel free to stand/sit on the outskirts of the sidewalk/blacktop around the entire building to view the parade.

Please note- In the event of inclement weather, the outdoor parade will be canceled and spectators will not be able to come inside for our indoor parade. We will try to make a decision by 9:15AM, and will push out a text & email if we end up needing to switch gears and move the parade inside. We appreciate your patience/understanding on this!

First Grade headed to Westview for a field trip last week. Students rode on a big wagon to a pumpkin patch where they were able to search for their perfect pumpkin. We enjoyed yummy cider and donuts and had time to explore the playground, Spookley maze, and many animals.

In the classroom, we learned about the lifecycle of a pumpkin and listed adjectives to describe different types of pumpkins. On Friday, we used our pumpkins for a pumpkin investigation. Students measured their pumpkins and got to remove the gooey insides to count the seeds. It was a great way to wrap up our "Pumpkin Week"!

On Friday our Student Council sponsored their annual MSU vs UofM Penny wars competition. Students had a great time cheering for their team while raising money for a local charity! Thank you to our student leaders for organizing a spirited event to help support our community!

Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring dinner for our staff on parent-teacher conferences. It means a lot to our staff and we loved having the opportunity to eat together during our dinner break. Thank you for all your support to our amazing Disney staff!

We are excited to embark on the creation of our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan—a roadmap that will shape the next five years of excellence in Fraser Public Schools. This plan will continue to focus on our strong traditions of excellence by staying committed to our core values and beliefs - Innovate, Learn, Lead.

We will be holding a Community & Parent Meeting to kick off the strategic planning process onOctober 29th at 6 pm in the Fraser High School Media Center. All are welcome to attend!

Happy Veterans Day to our friends and family! If you have a special Veteran in your life that you would like to celebrate, please sign up to bring them with you on Monday, November 11th from 7:45-8:15 AM for donuts and coffee! We will have our Wall of Honor up with our Veterans' pictures to honor their service. If your veteran is no longer with you and you would like to still join us in their honor, please do and sign up!

* There is a different sign up if you need a Wall of Honor sheet to fill out. If you are not able to make it to the breakfast, please feel free to still fill out a Wall of Honor Sheet on behalf of your Veteran.

During the month of November, Disney honors our Veterans with our Wall of Honor. The Wall of Honor will be displayed for the month of November and at our Veterans Day Breakfast, so all may have the chance to tour and enjoy.

If you would like to have your Veteran included in our Wall of honor, you can download the wall of honor sheet below. Your student can also pick up a copy in the main office. Reminder: Please use a COPY of your Veteran's picture. The Wall of Honor sheets will be laminated and kept at Disney to use for future years. All completed Wall of Honor sheets must be returned by Monday, November 4th.

If you have turned a Wall of Honor sheet in from previous years, we have it saved and will use it this year. you DONOT need to sign-up and complete a new sheet.

As a reminder, you do not have to attend the breakfast in order to have your Veteran participate in the Wall of Honor. These are two separate events. Please make sure to RSVP to the breakfast AND to the Wall of Honor if you are participating in both events.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Disney Science Olympiad team there will be an informational meeting on Thursday November 7 at 4:00 pm in the Disney media center for any interested 3rd - 6th grade student and their parent. This meeting will cover expectations, events, important dates, and more. An adult must accompany their student to this meeting to make sure both are clear of expectations. We want to be sure that our own families in need have access to items collected from our upcoming Canned Food Drive and Giving Tree Drive, along with other items that are often donated by community organizations.

If your family is experiencing any type of hardship this winter and could benefit from being a recipient of items collected, please complete the below form to let us know and we'll reach out to you if any items are available.

As you know, School Picture Day was Tuesday, October 1st. If your child was absent or needs their picture retaken, Lifetouch has been scheduled to return on Friday, November 8th. If you wish to participate in picture retake, please send the original Lifetouch picture package to school with your child.

All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.

Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.

Parents can use Canvas to

• Contact their child’s teacher

• View grades, due dates, and events

• See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school

• Support an absent student

• View classroom and building announcements

• And more!

For the first step you will need to have two devices (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) available to be paired. One device will be used to log into your student’s canvas account. The other will be used to create your parent canvas account.

For parents/guardians of students whom are in young fives through 2nd Grade:

A QR code of your students’ username and password will have been sent home. Use your camera function to scan the QR code to access your student’s Canvas Account. If you are having issues with the QR code, contact your teacher or elementary media tech.

For parents/guardians of students whom are in 3rd-6th Grade:

When the red flag is hung outside the front of the building, this means indoor line-up due to inclement weather. Our students can enter the building at 8:20! As a reminder, the bus loop is not a drop off zone, this area needs to stay open during arrival and dismissal times.

The bell to start the school day rings at 8:30 a.m. We have had a problem with many students arriving late to school. This not only affects the student who is tardy, but also has an impact on the rest of the classroom. Many important events take place at the beginning of the school day. When a student arrives late, they are missing out on important classroom assignments as well as important announcements. They also interrupt the learning environment for the rest of the students. Please make every effort to assure your student starts the day off in positive way by getting them to school on time.

We have also have an increasing number of students leaving early daily. We dismiss at 3:30 PM unless otherwise noted. Students withdrawn early also miss on daily instruction and interventions. They also disrupt the learning environment. Please make every effort to schedule appointments outside the school day. We want to make sure all of our students are learning. Once we reach 3:15 we may not be able to dismiss your student early. With the many moving parts at the end of the school day, it is not always possible to redirect a student to the office at that time.

Gleaners Food Bank offers multiple distribution sites throughout Michigan. You can find a list of all locations by clicking here. This year, they will also continue their distribution at the Fraser VFW location every other Thursday. Their next distribution is on Thursday, October 3rd.
