Message from the Principal
In Gratitude
πSoto Street Teachersπ
Faith
I am really appreciative of how she shows up, well before her scheduled time, to have pride and ownership of her job- one of the most important jobs, the face of Soto on 7th Street. Faith goes above and beyond, and has even created a Soto Street music playlist for kids in the yard!
Casillas
I love people who are proactive and come up with solutions to immediate problems, and Mr. Casillas is always ready to jump into action.
Mirlena
Thank you to our Cafeteria Manager who was relentless in securing a date for the LAUSD TACO TRUCK to come to Soto Street! I knew she could make it happen! Save the date for November 13th!

OPERATIONAL UPDATES π
Air Conditioning Update
Please know that as we make it out of the current wave, we have systems in place to make sure students are comfortable every day.
HVAC
As I have shared, we are in the middle of a 2 year HVAC project to install a new centralized Air Conditioning System. Crews are working every night, and over the weekend to make sure this project stays on track. The contractors and LAUSD M&O staff have been at Soto Street almost everyday to make changes everyday and assure the students are comfortable.
Classroom
Every classroom has 2 portable units which are set at 69 degrees. To help circulate the air, we have 2 oscilating fans as well. Last week, crews worked over night to install solar block window coverings, which made a difference in the classrooms. We are checking the class temperature every hour to make sure they stay in the 70s. Any class over 80 degrees, is being temporarily relocated ot the MPR. We have only had to relocate 1 class last Thursday, and the solar blocking paper made a difference for that class on Friday.
Recess:
At recess, if the temperature is around 85 degrees at 10AM, the kids are enjoying misting fans.
If the temperature increases over 90%, students will have a modified recess indoors.
Lunch:
Indoor Lunch if the temporature is over 90 at noon. Students shift in and out of the MPR.
We will get through this together. Please know that I am happy to answer any questions or concerns. Email me at jproano@lausd.net.
