Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion Families,
I hope everyone is doing well. Incredibly, last week our students celebrated the 100th day of school! A big Thank You and Shout Out to all of our teachers and parent volunteers for helping our students count a variety of different things and display 100 in a variety of different and creative ways. Everyone enjoyed "¡Celebrando 100 días más inteligentes!".
This month is Black History Month and it is important that we celebrate African American accomplishments and achievements, history, and culture. Here are some digital resources that you can access from home to help teach your children about Black history and culture:
- How to Celebrate Black History with Children
- History Channel
- National Museum of African American History and Culture
- Story Corps
State Testing Practice Questions for 3rd-5th Grades
Our 3rd-5th grade students will be tested in Reading and Math on the State SBAC test in the first few weeks of May. All year long students are working to improve their skills in these areas in order to show what they have learned on the State test. Recently, we were given access to practice sample items from previous tests and teachers are using them to help our students prepare and check if they need to reteach a concept. We are finding that many times students might know an answer, but need help understanding what the question is asking. Here are some of the Sample Item questions if you want to also support your child at home.

School Dress Code Reminder
A reminder to all parents that sweaters, hoodies, sweatshirts can be: black, white, grey, yellow, or navy blue. Recently, a few parents were asking about whether a zippered hoodie sweatshirt is considered a jacket/coat and it is not. Jackets/Coats normally have much heavier material and are not made with a cotton fabric like a hoodie sweatshirt. Please do your best to ensure your child is coming to school following our dress code. Our Family Center received a large donation of clothing for any family that needs help with clothing that falls within our dress code.

Child Nutrition Services: Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
