Log College Middle School Recognized Among Top 35% of Middle Schools
I am thrilled to share that we were informed that in the recently released 2025 U.S. News & World Report rankings, Log College Middle School is ranked among the top 35% of middle schools in Pennsylvania. This prestigious distinction (which may be the first national recognition since 2000) places the school in the U.S. News Best Middle Schools category, a recognition that underscores the outstanding educational experience Log College Middle School provides its students.
The U.S. News Best Middle Schools rankings are based on several key factors, including academic performance, student-to-teacher ratios, and state math and English language arts assessments. Log College Middle School's placement among the top 35% of schools statewide reflects its commitment to fostering academic excellence, promoting student engagement, and providing a well-rounded education for all its learners.
The U.S. News rankings help parents, guardians, students, and educators assess how well schools prepare students for high school and beyond. They are based on data from the U.S. Department of Education, state-level assessment results, and other factors contributing to student success.
Log College Middle School's ranking reflects the district's and school's ongoing focus on continuous improvement, social-emotional growth, and preparation for future academic challenges. CSD and the school continue to offer a wide range of programs and initiatives to support student success, including specialized support services, extracurricular opportunities, and a dedicated team of administrators, faculty, and staff who work tirelessly to ensure every student's potential is reached. This achievement is also a testament to our community support of our schools and our students' continued classroom efforts.
Centennial School District Celebrates Veterans Day!
This week, Centennial School District proudly honored Veterans Day with heartfelt celebrations across our schools. Students and staff came together to recognize and thank the brave men and women who have served our country. Our events included special assemblies, presentations, and moments of silence, all dedicated to showing appreciation for their sacrifices and commitment to freedom. We are grateful for the opportunity to instill in our students a deep respect for our veterans and an understanding of their invaluable contributions to our nation. Thank you to everyone who participated in making this tribute a meaningful experience.
McDonald Elementary School Veterans Day Breakfast and Assembly
McDonald Elementary School hosted a heartfelt Veterans Day breakfast and assembly to honor our nation's veterans. The event kicked off with a flag presentation by Cub Scout Pack 200, followed by a stirring performance of the National Anthem by fifth grader Grace Inverso on trumpet as veterans stood in salute.
The assembly featured special guest speaker, Sergeant Joe Hadlich, a former McDonald student and Marine Corps veteran, who shared his experiences in the military. The Klinger Band also performed a song to celebrate the occasion.
Students joined in with a moving rendition of God Bless the USA, incorporating sign language to express their respect and gratitude. The morning concluded with a poignant slideshow showcasing local veterans and their service.
It was a memorable event that brought our school community together to honor those who have served our country.
Kinger Celebrates Veterans Day
On November 11, 2024, Klinger Middle School hosted over 50 Veterans and their guests at their sixteenth annual Veterans Day Assembly. The Social Studies Department, with the help of the Home & School Association, the Klinger 8th grade band, the Klinger Singers, the Student Council, Klinger Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and several community sponsors, planned a very successful assembly honoring our local veterans. A few highlights of the morning:
The Klinger Singers led us in singing the National Anthem and the Klinger 8th grade band played two patriotic pieces.
Our Guest Speaker, Major Michael Hayes, Brigade Judge Advocate, 411th Engineer Brigade, US Army Reserve, explained his experience as a JAG officer.
Our annual slide show featuring our community’s veterans was followed by the playing of TAPS to honor the fallen.
Our reception after the assembly allowed us time to meet and chat with all our honored guests while enjoying a delicious spread of food organized by the HSA and donated by many local businesses and families.
This event has become a true community affair that the Klinger Community is very proud to be a part of each and every year.
CENTENNIAL HIGHLIGHTS
ACADEMICS
Centennial Supports a Local School District Through a Site Visit to McDonald Elementary
This week, Centennial welcomed a team of teachers and administrators from Abington School District to observe Wit & Wisdom in action. Four McDonald teachers graciously welcomed the visitors and provided an insightful eye into the curriculum and its implementation. Ranging from the “Knowledge” Stage in kindergarten to the “Reveal” Stage in fifth grade, students exhibited strong critical thinking skills using text evidence to support their thoughts.
In Ms. Barnhart's kindergarten class, students explored the five senses through a reread of My Five Senses by Margaret Miller and My Five Senses by Aliki, followed by a Socratic Seminar. They discussed how each sense—sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch—helped characters understand their surroundings, using text evidence to support their ideas. This activity strengthened students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while deepening their understanding of sensory experiences. Through these discussions, they practiced thoughtful communication and critical thinking.
In Ms. Hill’s first grade class, students engaged in the "Distill" stage of Wit & Wisdom by working in pairs to closely read and analyze Green Eggs and Ham. Each pair selected a specific section of the book to focus on, discussing language, themes, and the author’s purpose to identify the central message. This exercise fostered improvement in reading comprehension as well as critical thinking, as students shared insights and supported each other’s interpretations. By presenting their findings to the class, students also practiced speaking and listening skills, enhancing their ability to communicate ideas effectively. This collaborative activity created a rich learning environment, integrating multiple literacy skills through close reading and discussion.
In Ms. Conlon’s fifth grade class, students prepared for their next Focusing Question Task by brainstorming character traits from two characters in the text, Thunder Rolling in the Mountains. Through thoughtful discussion, they compared Chief Joseph and Sound of Running Feet using terms like "calm," "peaceful," "fierce," and "reckless" to deepen their analysis. Working in pairs, students also examined figurative language, exploring how it reveals deeper meanings in the text. This activity enhanced their comprehension and analytical skills, provided students with the “just right” support and productive struggle, and ultimately set a strong foundation for literary analysis.
In Ms. Meeks’ fifth grade class, students also prepared for the Focusing Question Task in Module 1 based on Thunder Rolling in the Mountains. They began with a quick write to explain their own thoughts regarding the values and beliefs of Chief Joseph and Sound of Running Feet. After gathering text evidence in previous lessons and today, students worked in pairs to expand on their findings. Ms. Meeks emphasized that elaborating on evidence is essential for text-dependent analysis (TDA) and skillfully guided students to deepen their understanding. This collaborative activity supported critical thinking and reinforced the importance of both evidence and elaboration in literary analysis.
The Abington team was grateful for the opportunity to visit Centennial and bear witness to the incredible and consistent learning opportunities we are providing to the students. In every classroom, we continue to build reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to ensure students are engaged and successful throughout their academic journey.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated McDonald teachers who opened their doors, providing the Abington observers with a firsthand look at Wit & Wisdom. Your willingness to share your classrooms showcased the meaningful learning experiences you create every day, highlighting the incredible impact of your work on student growth.
Klippers Spanish Culture Class - Day of the Dead
The Klinger students in Spanish Culture Class had a fantastic time wrapping up our Day of the Dead unit! They got creative by making bright marigold flowers from coffee filters, bringing a pop of color to our bulletin board. Plus, students decorated sugar skull cookies, each one very unique and vibrant. It was a fun and meaningful way to celebrate and learn about this beautiful tradition!
The Centennial Chief Science Officers
On Tuesday, November 12, the Centennial Chief Science Officers attended their fall cabinet meeting at the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center in Doylestown, PA. Students were actively engaged in learning about biotechnology as they worked within the lab setting to explore a process called “bacterial transformation.” In this process, bacteria samples take in foreign DNA samples and replicate copies of them. Following their lab experience, students were provided with a tour of the Biotechnology center, and they learned about the work being completed by each of the scientists in the center. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about what it is like to work in the field of biotechnology and speak with scientists that helped with the development of medications that are now available in the market. The day ended with the students working on and presenting their action plans to the Bucks County Cabinet.
