Grow Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Skills This Summer!
Summer break is almost here! While academics take a backseat, social-emotional learning (SEL) can continue to blossom throughout the season. This month's Social Work Corner offers tips to nurture important life skills in your child:
- Playful SEL: Infuse games and outings with social learning! Plan board games that encourage teamwork or create scavenger hunts that foster problem-solving.
- Emotions in Action: Role-play scenarios at home to help kids navigate tricky emotions. Practice expressing frustration calmly or asking for help respectfully.
- Family Time, Growth Time: Schedule regular family meals for open communication. Encourage sharing feelings and celebrate successes, big or small.
- Community Connections: Volunteer together at a local shelter or organize a neighborhood cleanup. Building empathy and social responsibility strengthens SEL.
