Happy Friday South Community!
This week at the South we had our fall parent teacher conferences! It was so great to see so many parents, caregivers and loved ones here to support all of our South School students. We had 73% of students have a conferences during the conference period. We look forward to seeing our families at our Spring Conferences!
Please be sure to review the Halloween expectations with your child for the South School. The flyer is linked below. Please reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions regarding our school rules regarding Halloween. You are by no means required to wear a costume and we encourage students to wear black and orange for Stoughton Pride or some South School Spirit Gear!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Update from Nurse Kaplan
Welcome back to school. As in past years, we welcome several students to our classrooms with food allergies. We invite your help and cooperation to help them stay safe!
At the beginning of the year, your child and their classroom participated in a food allergy awareness class.. Ask your student what they learned about how to keep fellow classmates safe.
NEVER share your food with other classmates- there are many allergies to all sorts of foods that can make a classmate extremely sick and have to visit an emergency room for treatment.
NEVER bring in food for sharing for classroom celebrations- your teacher can offer alternate ways to celebrate a special occasion.
ONLY eat food from home or what was specifically given to you from the cafeteria- cafeteria staff are aware of and very mindful of student allergies! If you happen to forget your snack one day, please go see the nurse…
Students are encouraged to wash hands after eating- allergens do not go away with hand sanitizer; they must be washed away with soap and water.
We look forward to working together with you and your students to have a wonderful school year. If you have any questions regarding food allergies, please feel free to call me in the clinic. Also, please update me with any changes to your childs’ allergies…..
Thanks!

Counseling Corner
Strong and respectful listening skills are practiced this week, and we are learning how to identify and see the good in others. Students in K-2 will learn about others’ different experiences and will learn how words and actions can affect others. Students in grades 3-5 learn how they can show respect to themselves and others by being a good leader using social media. Perspective -taking is learned by exploring other points of view. Practicing how to give effective meaningful compliments as a leadership strategy is also highlighted.
In this K-2 Character Strong video, the Tree of Choices is explained and is a tool to teach students how to show respect to others during conflict.
