BHS Happenings

Report cards are now available on your PowerSchool Parent Portal. This report card will include all grades to date including: Quarter 1, Quarter 2, Semester 1 and Exam 1. Please make note of your child's attendance points, which may have caused them to lose credit in a class. Congratulations to the Girls Indoor Track Team who on Saturday won the Central Connecticut Conference Indoor Track Championship! The boys track team also finished third in the conference meet. We wish both teams the best of luck as they compete in the Class 'S' State Championship next Saturday.

BHS is happy to announce that we have a new band director, Mr. Thomas Murphy. Mr. Murphy comes to us from New Jersey with over thirty years experience in directing bands and a plethora of musical accomplishments. Welcome Mr. Murphy!

Boys Basketball:

• On Wednesday, January 29th, BHS Varsity Boys Basketball Team defeated Avon, 82-27.
• On Friday, January 31st, BHS' Varsity Boys Basketball Team defeated Farmington, 71-46.
• On Monday, February 3rd, BHS' Varsity Boys Basketball Team defeated Bristol Central, 78-68.

Girls Basketball:

• On Tuesday, January 28th, BHS' Varsity Girls Co-Op Team fell to Coventry, 52-60.
• On Friday, January 31st, BHS' Varsity Girls Co-Op Team fell to Suffield, 57-59.
• On Monday, February 3rd, BHS' Varsity Girls Co-Op Team fell to Somers, 38-39.

Girls Indoor Track:

• On Saturday, February 1st, BHS' Varsity Girls Track Team competed in the CCC Indoor Track & Field Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center. The girls were named overall CCC Champions defeating Windsor High School 89-84. They were also named the CCC Central Division Champions defeating Simsbury/Conard, 137-78. Top finishers for the girls were:
• Saphyr Brown finished 2nd in the 55 Meter Dash
• Nacquelia Fletcher finished 3rd in the 55 Meter Dash
• Caleah Baker finished 5th in the 300 Meters
• Soleigh Dixon finished 6th in the 300 Meters and 2nd in the High Jump
• Vanessa Agyemang finished 1st in the 55 Meter Hurdles and Long Jump
• The 4x2 Relay of Vanessa Agyemang, Saphyr Brown, Nacquelia Fletcher and Caleah Baker finished 1st
• The 4x4 Relay of Kiylah Williams, Caleah Baker, Jahniya Barclay and Soleigh Dixon finished 1st
• Payton Sirdine finished 1st in the Shot Put
• Kiylah Williams finished 3rd in the Shot Put
• April Nathaniel finished 3rd in the Long Jump
• The following girls have been named to the all conference team for indoor track: Vanessa Agyemang, Caleah Baker, Jahniya Barclay, Saphyr Brown, Soleigh Dixon, Nacquelia Fletcher, April Nathaniel, Payton Sirdine and Kiylah Williams.

Boys Indoor Track:

• On Saturday, February 1st, BHS' Varsity Boys Track Team competed in the CCC Indoor Track & Field Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center. The boys finished 3rd overall with 61 points and 2nd in the central division with 102 points. Top finishers for the boys were:
• Jahiem Lawrence finished 2nd in the 600 Meters
• Delante Senior finished 2nd in the 55 Meter Hurdles, setting a new school record
• Shaun Lazenby finished 6th in the 55 Meter Hurdles
• The 4x4 Relay of Jahiem Lawrence, Delante Senior, Steven White and Jessie Singleton Jr. finished 2nd
• Khile Francis finished 2nd in the Shot Put
• Mason Gray finished 5th in the Shot Put
• Romar Heron finished 2nd in the High Jump
• Jessie Singleton Jr. finished 1st in the Long Jump and 2nd in the High Jump
• The following boys have been named to the all conference team for indoor track: Khile Francis, Romar Heron, Jahiem Lawrence, Delante Senior, Jessie Singleton Jr. and Steven White.

This week in Dr. Macchi‘s Modern World History class, students read and analyzed excerpts from Erich Remarque’s classic novel, All quiet on the Western Front as part of their unit on World War I. To support understanding and strengthen writing skills, students were provided with an exemplar writing sample to text dependent questions. After modeling another one together, students were provided with manipulatives and tasked with arranging them in the correct order, that follows our school-wide short answer response template. Student engagement was very high and they look forward to more of these kinds of activities.

Recently, BHS had twelves students graduate from The Life After High School Program. An afterschool program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge essential for success in various post graduation paths, whether it be higher education, the workforce, entrepreneurship, vocational programs, or service in the armed forces. The program is based on tailored guidance, college preparation, workforce readiness, entrepreneurship support, vocational program assistance and armed service guidance. We couldn't get all of our recent graduates of the program to take the picture but we are proud of all of you!

The Bloomfield Public Library recently held a Young Author Talk with BHS graduates Ethan Morander and Jonathan Garcia-Rodrigues on their new book, Blue Lands Black Hearts.
