Words Matter
Our staff has prioritized a refocused and districtwide commitment to addressing profanity and hate speech on our campuses. We have an expectation of respect, civility, and safety at our schools, and the use of profanity and hate speech diminishes the positive culture we want for our students and staff.
As parents and guardians, we ask for your partnership in this refocus by reminding your students that profanity and hate speech, even if intended to be said in jest, does not represent what we value and is not acceptable at school and at school functions. Our hope is that this unified commitment will result in the change we desire, and that proactive reminders and warnings to students will be all that are needed if inappropriate language is heard. However, repeated and egregious language violations will have disciplinary consequences.
If you or your child have concerns about language on your campus, we encourage you to bring them to the attention of your child’s teacher or school administrators. Most issues can be addressed and resolved by those you interact most closely with on a regular basis.
We appreciate your support!
Fun Run
International Walk and Roll to School Day, Wednesday, October 4th
Lawrence Elementary is once again excited to celebrate and host International Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 4th! We will celebrate our school spirit, our health, and the environment with the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program. With your family and friends, you can participate by walking, riding a bike, or riding a scooter to school. Or you can take the bus with your child and walk from there, or even park in the surrounding neighborhoods and walk with a group of friends to make a walking school bus! Once you enter campus, come on by the "Walk and Roll" table set up by the Science Lab for your Labrador to indicate with a sticker how they got to school that morning. If you'd like to help volunteer at the table that morning, please sign up here!
Will you walk with your neighbors? Will you park off of Royal Rd. and Briarwood Dr. to cross Portola and say "Good Morning" to Phyllis, our awesome crossing guard? Make a plan ahead with your friends and family and have fun walking and rolling!
Post an action shot on social media to celebrate the day and tag #WalkandRoll23 and #IWR2SD if you'd like!
