Unity Foundation Small Teacher Grants Deadline Sept. 10

Booster Club Raffle Tickets Available
The Michigan City High School Booster Club is running its annual raffle fundraiser again this fall. The drawing is set for September 29 and will be held on Facebook. Tickets are $20 each, and the first prize is $1000 in cold, hard cash! All proceeds benefit MCHS student-athletes; your support is greatly appreciated! Homecoming is Friday, September 17 with a 7pm kick-off against Merrillville.
Tickets are $7 each and will be available at the Michigan City High School Athletic Office Tuesday through Friday between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.

Food Service Update - Adult Lunch Prices & Virtual Student Meals
This school year, in order to be compliant with the regulations of the National School Lunch Program, MCAS will not have an adult-priced meal. All entrees and side offerings will be a la carte priced. We look forward to serving you and hope you will join us for a meal!
Plus... Coming Soon! The Food Service Department will soon be providing meals for our Virtual Academy students. Details about ordering and pickup will be announced after Labor Day.

CPR Training Resources for Teachers/Certified Staff
Need CPR Certification? Here are two options to consider!
OPTION 1: Val Skwiat, Trainer/Safety Manager, MCAS Transportation Department has provided the following information:
- Go to elearning.heart.org and complete your course.
- Send Val an email or call/text to schedule the "hands on" portion.
- If you live near, she can come to your house, or meet at your school.
- She will need a copy of your course completion certificate.
- The cost is $15 and she will have the certification card for you.

OPTION 2: David Sanders, EMT Instructor at AK Smith, has provided this info about his company, Crash Course CPR:
- Go to IneedaCPRcard.com for information
- A simple CPR Card refresher class is $30. This is an all-inclusive class including an online quiz and skills test out.
- Takes approximately 1 hour to complete (also available through Zoom)
- Appointments available - Monday through Friday 10:00 am - Noon, plus after school and evening hours.
- Bring your friends: We have enough CPR equipment to provide individual or up to 40 students at a time.
- Payment can be made at the time of service or online at www.IneedaCPRcard.com

Way to Go!
Krueger and Barker have each received $15,000 grants from the Ardagh Group. These grants will help support Project Lead the Way STEM courses, providing training, supplies, and software for units called “App Creators” and “Computer Science for Innovators & Makers.” Special thanks to Krueger teacher Jenny Jones for coordinating this grant application for our middle schools!
Indiana’s Office of Work-based Learning and Apprenticeship will be granting its “State Earn and Learn” certification to the Construction Technology program at the A. K. Smith Career Center next week! SEAL certification is awarded to structured programs that offer both an education component and on-the-job training, focus on employer needs, and maintain sustainable partnerships and embedded industry certifications. Kudos to Construction teacher Dick Bucher and the team at A. K. Smith!
Facebook for Education
Did you know that Facebook now offers Facebook for Education - providing free resources to help support teachers and other educational staff? The purpose is to promote educational equity and to build inclusive and innovative learning communities.
Among the website features are: free lesson plans, videos and activities; personalized coding tools; best practices for Facebook products like Messenger and Pages; and information on Facebook University programs that provide hands-on internships to college students from underrepresented backgrounds.
Free State Park Visit for Indiana Teachers on Sept. 12
Through a partnership between the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the 2022 CFP Indianapolis Host Committee, and the CFP Foundation, one-time free admission is available to any DNR property on Sept. 12 when educators present their school ID.
