Principal's Corner
Dear SKDS Family,
What a wonderful gathering on Monday for our Early Childhood Picnic. We ate in the gym and then gathered outside to play with the sidewalk chalk, catch the bubbles, play ball toss, and climb on the jungle gym. There was plenty of good conversation, good food and all around contagious energy. A special thanks to our early childhood teachers (Mrs. Skare-4K, Mrs. Cargen 3K, and Ms. Warmka-5K) for planning. We extend words of appreciation to our Home and School Association as well for helping with this event.
And speaking of Home and School, they are holding their first meeting of the school year this evening at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Please join us for the scoop on the agenda of fun events planned for families. Be sure to keep your ears and eyes attuned to upcoming H&S news.
As we wrap up the fourth week of school, I want to take a moment to thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us. It has been a joy watching them settle into the school year, make new friends, and begin their journey of growth and learning. We are truly honored to partner with you in their education.
At this point in the year, routines are becoming more familiar, and students are diving deeper into their studies. However, the journey is just beginning! Your involvement plays a vital role in helping your child succeed. Research consistently shows that when parents are engaged in their child’s education, both in school and at home, it has a positive impact on academic achievement, social skills, and overall well-being.
Here are a few ways you can stay involved:
- Check-In Regularly: Ask your child about what they learned each day. It doesn’t have to be a formal discussion—simple, open-ended questions can help keep the lines of communication open.
- Stay Informed: Keep an eye on school newsletters, teacher updates, and events. Attending parent-teacher meetings, volunteering when you can, or even just staying updated on class activities can help you stay connected.
- Encourage Good Habits: Help your child establish consistent routines for homework, reading, and studying. These habits will benefit them throughout the year.
- Be a Cheerleader: Celebrate both big and small successes. A little encouragement goes a long way in keeping your child motivated and confident.
As we move forward, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your ongoing support. We are fortunate to have such dedicated parents, and we believe that together, we can help your children achieve great things.
Blessings,
Ms. Weiss

The Children's Choir
Joyful Noise
Grades 1 - 8
Exciting news! We will soon be re-starting the parish Children’s Choir JOYFUL NOISE! This will be open to all children in the parish in grades 1-8. Rehearsals will be most Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 PM in St. Cecilia’s Room just off the church narthex. We will sing for approximately one 10:00 mass per month including Christmas Eve and Easter.
Our first rehearsal will be Thursday, September 26 th . We will meet in the school cafeteria immediately after school and walk over to the St. Cecilia room for rehearsal. At this first rehearsal I will hand out a permission slip and other materials. It is very important that parents fill out and return the permission slip at the second rehearsal on October 3rd . There will be no separate parents’ meeting.
This group has always been a lot of fun and a great way for children to minister in our parish. There will be opportunities for solo cantoring, group cantoring and playing instruments. We will meet in the SKDS cafeteria on Thursdays after school and then rehearse from 3:30 to 4:30 in St. Cecilia’s room. Students
coming from the public schools who have a later dismissal time should still come and join us—a 30-45 minute rehearsal is still beneficial. Students who have sports or other activities on some Thursdays are welcome as often as they are able to attend.
Any questions, please contact Paul Kennedy

If you bring your dog with you onto the school grounds, it must be on a leash and under the control of an adult. Please do not tie your dog up and leave it unattended. Thank you!

Let us pray...
Autumn Prayer
God of all seasons, we thank you for Autumn.
We thank you
for the touch of coolness in the air that gives us a new burst of energy,
for the coloring of trees that shows the creativity of the Divine Artist,
for the falling leaves that reveal the strength of the branches,
for the hues of fields that bring peace to our souls,
for the smiles on pumpkins that bring joy to children,
for the fall harvest which that brings us gratitude for the bounty of our land,
for this change of seasons that reveals the circle of life.
God of all seasons, as you transform the earth, transform us by your Spirit.
Amen.
