IMPORTANT - Morning Drop Off
This is an urgent request for your partnership. Please make note that our front parking lot is CLOSED for parent drop off before school as well as pick up after school. There are several concerns with those dropping their students off in the front lot at the start of the school day/or pick up at the end.
1) It is not safe. We have had several near misses with cars/busses and students. The size of elementary students moving through a packed parking lot makes students very difficult to see.
2) This access point is designated for busses. Today our busses could not enter our front lot do to parent vehicles blocking access.
3) This is the parking lot for staff who are attempting to park and get to their work location - there are only 7 extra spots after staff have parked.
4) It is not supervised. There are not adults in the front lot that are monitoring for safety.
5) In the winter this lot gets VERY icy and is not treated. We have had several scary student falls in the front lot.
Beginning tomorrow we will have adults stationed at the entrance to the front lot with cones blocking access. If you would like to park in the side lot (which adjoins the drop off loop) and walk your child onto campus you are welcome to do so. If you are planning to remain in your car and drop off your child you will need to use the drop off loop off of Locust and 82nd. Thank you in advance for following this protocol.

Let's Keep the Momentum Going! Post-Thanksgiving Attendance Matters
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope you had a restful and joyful Thanksgiving break with your loved ones! As we transition back to school, we want to remind you of the importance of maintaining regular attendance throughout the remainder of the year. Good attendance is key to your child's academic success, and returning strong after the break can help keep up the positive momentum they've built so far.
Here’s why regular attendance is so important:
Consistent Learning: Every school day counts! When students miss school, they miss out on valuable learning experiences that build upon each other.
Positive Habits: Showing up on time and ready to learn helps establish strong routines, responsibility, and self-discipline.
Stronger Social Connections: Being in school allows students to continue building relationships with their teachers and classmates.
Tips to Help Your Child Return to School After the Winter Break:
Plan Ahead: Set a routine before school resumes to ensure your child is well-rested and ready to jump back into learning.
Stay Organized: Help your child prepare their school bag and any homework or projects they may need to bring back.
Promote a Positive Attitude: Encourage excitement about returning to school by discussing what they look forward to and the goals they want to achieve in the coming weeks.
We understand that there may be challenges, especially during this busy season, but maintaining strong attendance is a team effort, and your support is crucial! Together, we can help your child succeed academically and develop important lifelong habits.
Let’s finish the year strong—attendance matters!

Highly Capable Referrals Program Now Open
Does your child perform at significantly advanced academic levels compared to others? Consider referring them for the district's Highly Capable Program. SBLSD’s highly capable program provides services, curriculum and activities that extend learning beyond the curriculum provided in schools and is designed so that all students of outstanding levels of aptitude may develop their abilities.
The referral period is open now through Dec. 12. Students can be referred by a staff member, a parent/guardian, or a community member using these referral forms: English, Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian.
Note: Second and fifth grade students will participate in a Highly Capable Universal Screener in the fall, so they do not need to be referred to be considered for services.
