Millswood Middle School News:
Congratulations
Mrs. Arevalo was first a math teacher for us and then became our VP. She has been a rock star in both positions. She truly makes a difference every day and I am going to miss her as will our entire school. We wish her the very best!
Congratulations Mrs. Arevalo!
Spelling Bee is this week!
Spelling Bee
We are excited to announce that Millswood is having a spelling bee for 7th-8th grade. The Spelling Bee is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their spelling skills and compete in a friendly and encouraging environment. Participants will be tested on their ability to spell a variety of words; the event will include several rounds. The competition aims to foster a love of language and promote academic excellence. The site spelling bee will take place after school on Tuesday, October 22nd. The winner will go on to the district wide spelling bee. We encourage Millswood students to click on the link below for rules and practice lists. (This information has been available to students via their counselors and our morning bulletin as well!)
Student Leadership News:
October activities
- Thursday, October 24, we will have a Halloween movie event. We plan to show Nightmare Before Christmas, The Addams Family, Hocus Pocus, and Corpse Bride. Tickets for this event will be sold for $3 at lunch Monday and Tuesday. Students who attend will receive pizza, bottled water, and a candy.
- We are continuing to reward students for their participation in our school culture. Wear House shirts on Wednesday, College shirts on Thursday, and Grizzly Gear on Fridays. Participation earns students, classes, and houses prizes.
Last week was Digital Citizenship week. Students received a digital citizenship challenge on Friday. If they return it, signed by a parent, on Monday or Tuesday they can earn signatures on their reward cards AND a grizzly sticker.
Friday, 10/25 is our first house reward of the quarter. We will also have a house activity at the end of the day. For our house activity, students should wear their house shirts or house colors instead of Grizzly Gear.
Our 7th grade noon league kickball tournament started this week and 8th grade starts next week.
Students are invited to stop by the office window and check out the jar of pumpkins. Can you guess how many pumpkins are in the jar? Look for the Google Form on your counselor's Google Classroom and submit your guess for a chance to win a prize!

From Our Teachers:
Art & Design
Our new Art & Design class is off to a fantastic start! Over the course of the year, the class will use a variety of art mediums ranging from traditional supplies to digital equipment. Art & Design students improve their drawing skills with daily sketches and reinforce what they’re learning with bigger projects. We sketch. We draw. But new to most, is the introduction of the computer for digital arts. Here is a sample from one of our latest introductory lessons called “Elements of Art Robots.” Students were introduced to Adobe Illustrator (an industry standard software) and learned the basic drawing tools and workspace. Not only are students learning software, but also learning the fundamentals of computer application in our brand-new Mac lab. After learning what each tool does within the program, students were tasked to make their own EOL Robot. Here is just a sampling of the many unique robots that were created.
From Our Counselors
- The Anxiety Relief For Teens group meets every Tuesday at 7:40am. Students will learn effective strategies to deal with anxiety, stress and negativity. If you are interested in having your child participate, please contact Mrs. Kemp, 8th grade counselor.
- Parents, please continue to check your student’s Aeries account on a regular basis to stay updated on their progress. If your student earned a GPA below 2.0 last quarter, you will be receiving additional information in the mail soon. Our counselors are in the process of meeting with these students to discuss strategies for improving their grades this quarter.
Before and after school:
