Message From Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD.
We have finally arrived at Spring Break!
It’s been a busy few weeks across CUSD with performing arts productions, VES Jog-A-Thon, athletics, and high school quarterly exams. Assessment season is upon us as students in April and May begin both state standardized and Advanced Placement testing. As such, we encourage our staff and students to take advantage of the break before we head into the final months of the school year.
We are proud of our high school student clubs that are collaborating with each other and many community groups to address the polluted water at our beaches. Members of the Stop the Sewage, Emerald Keepers, and Junior Optimist clubs at CHS have united to organize a beach protest rally today (Thursday, March 28) at Central Beach. More information on the rally here!
On behalf of the district and Governing Board, I would like to wish everyone a happy, safe, and restful break.
Go Aztecs, Go Padres!

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Claudia Navarette works closely with my son. She always greets him with a smile and genuinely cares for him. She brightens his day. She comes up with new and exciting things/ways to help him best succeed. She highlights his strengths and helps improve the areas he needs more support. She does so well following his cues. We are so thankful for her and want her to know how great she is doing.
- Crystal Garner is an extraordinary teacher! She continually provides creative and thoughtful experiences in the classroom for her students. I noticed a sliver of this "extra" thoughtfulness in a hosted classroom book club she provides with hot cocoa throughout the year for her students and parent volunteers. In everything she does she equips her students with confidence and great support in their endeavors. She is e x t r a o r d i n a r y!!
- Kelly Sailers is not just an amazing history teacher but teaches students skills they will need in their future education. History is a very demanding class in the 8th grade but by using varied assignments and teaching techniques she motivates the students to do their best even those who initially don't have an interest in history. She teaches students how to think critically and recognizes qualities in individual students which she uses to help them learn and take ownership. She goes beyond the subject curriculum to teach students how to study in preparation for the demanding classes that are awaiting them in the High School. I am very happy that my son was assigned to her History class because she managed to motivate him to do his best. It is teachers like Kelly Sailers that make CUSD great.
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2023-2024 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $20 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
