Many Families Receiving Assistance Through FACT Program
The FACT program provides a resource for teachers, counselors, principals and families. Dealing with the various social issues students may face such as the lack of family funding for necessary concrete needs (food, clothing, shelter and medical care) can be a huge task. The ultimate goal of the FACT program is to enhance student academic performance and achievement by addressing external and internal barriers that interfere with learning.
There are times when families need assistance navigating difficult circumstances. That is when a FACT referral provides assistance, guidance and a network of knowledge for problem solving with families. The FACT Program Resource Coordinators develop relationships with critical community resources-helping families navigate their way to needed services and an understanding of the process for future needs.
The FACT Resource Coordinators provide services that are needed by the students and families but are not currently provided by the schools. All services are provided free of charge and all children and their families are eligible to receive services. The Resource coordinator is scheduled two days a week in the school.
Principal, Beth Hales speaks highly of FACT's assistance to the schools. "The FACT program has been an invaluable resource for Austinville. These ladies step in and work with our teachers when we as a staff do not have the time during the school day to meet all their needs. They are a great support system for us and our students' families. We are grateful FACT exists in order to meet the external needs of Austinville students."
According to Director, Paige Dobbins, from August through November of 2015, FACT has served 60 families consisting of 269 individuals and provided 306 services. These services included: clothing/shoes, medical, vision and dental assistance, Thanksgiving and Christmas referrals, translation and utility assistance, just to name a few.

First Baptist Members Recognize the True Joy During this Season of Giving
First Baptist Church members were all in agreement to bless two Austinville families for Christmas this year. After all, it is the season of giving. Their goal was to select two deserving families with multiple children. A gift card would greatly benefit a family with several to feed or buy gifts for during this time of year. So on Tuesday morning, five members from First Baptist Church visited Austinville to present two families with $50 Wal-Mart gift cards. Mrs. Gonzalez, Austinville EL teacher aide translated for the presentation. The mothers were both extremely grateful. They told Mrs. Gonzalez to please convey what a wonderful blessing this gift would be this year. FBC Members making the presentation were Keith Frost, Roger Jenkins, Rudy Gingrich,Teresa Letson, and Vickie Allaway.
