Principal's Message
Dear Corbett Families and Students,
I am very pleased with the start of the 2024-2025 school year, both with the professionalism of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students. This past week, we made it through the heat! I am thankful to our maintenance staff who worked late to get additional fans and portable AC units into classrooms, helping to keep classroom temperatures from skyrocketing. We held our first assembly which ended with handing out “Cardinal Energy” t-shirts to every student, funded by a Communicare grant. Thank you to Ms. Ducey and Communicare club students for creating this opportunity to improve school culture and climate.
We are making plans for the Fall PSAT and SAT, both tests are are online and the registration process is handled by the school. We will also host a Spring SAT and Pre-ACT.
- Seniors will be receiving an invitation to take the SAT held on October 15th, 8:00-11:30 am in the back gym. This will be the second time the class of 2025 has taken the SAT. Not all students need or want a second SAT score, so this opportunity will be optional.
- Juniors will take the PSAT on October 16th, 8:00-11:30 am in the back gym. This is a required exam for Corbett students, and makes them eligible for the National Merit Scholarship competition. Juniors will then take the SAT on April 23rd, 2025.
- Sophomores will be required to take the Pre-ACT in the spring of 2025, which is an opportunity to measure student’s math, English, reading, and science skills, and includes information on plans and goals for after high school as well as college-readiness skills.
Corbett School District is committed to preparing all students for life after high school, and making sure they have as many options as possible.

CHS Student Handbook Review
Over the past couple of weeks, the Corbett community has been reviewing aspects of the student handbook in Homeroom. We have called this Handbook Hot Takes and want to also share these slides with families. Although this is not full coverage of the content in the student handbook, it address the most common aspects that come up at CHS. Here is a link to a PDF of the content covered.
The Corbett School District Student and Parent Hanbook can be accessed at the bottom of the district's website under usefull links.
College Entrance Assessments
Corbett School District is dedicated to making sure that ALL students are prepared for College and Career after high school. To that end, the district pays for all students to take college entrance exams.
Pre-ACT - Sophomores in the Spring - TBD - Required
PSAT - Juniors on October 16th - Required
SAT - Seniors on October 15th - Optional
SAT - Juniors on April 23rd - Required
Seniors will be sent a form on Wednesday, September 11th, to opt out or in to the Fall SAT, families should discuss this with their student. Reasons to take the SAT a second time:
Most students who take the SAT more than once increase their score.
You have experience taking the test, and will feel confident.
Higher SAT score could help you earn scholarships.

Senior Corner
We can fill the energy from the Class of 2025 as they launch their Senior Year. This is an exciting time when students are both culminating their K-12 school experience and are planning for next steps in life. Throughout the year, Ms. Pekny and our Senior Homeroom Teachers will provide students support in this endeavor. Plans are in motion for the SAT, transcript reviews, college visits, and the post high-school application processes. Stay tuned for more information about senior focused experiences.
Let's Go Cards!
What a great time to be a Cardinal! We have 144 athletes out for cross country, men's and women's soccer, volleyball and football. All sports have started their season and are off to a great start. We thank our athletes for their flexibility as we navigated weather conditions last week. Shout out to Cardinal student sections who supported our teams with positive energy!
On Saturday, our Cross Country team headed to Tillamook to run The Ultimook! As always, the event was a season highlight where the team ran hard, supported one another, and personal records were set by five athletes. Cross Country has named its captains, Thatcher Peterson and Flynn Parrish who teammates see embodying the team's values of Passion, Purpose, and Perseverance. The next race will be Saturday, 9/14, at the Rainier Invitational.
Women’s Soccer went on the road to take on Yamhill-Carlton on Tuesday. Although a tough loss, the team continues to build camaraderie, work hard, and improve. The Cards will be back on their home field Tuesday, September 10th @ 4:30 against Stevenson. The theme is Red/White/and Blue this week for all home games. Come out and cheer on your Cards!
The Men’s Soccer team traveled in the pre-dawn hours Saturday, 9/7 to face the Santiam Christian Eagles. Despite a slow first half, the Cards came alive in the second to win 3-0. Senior Jayson Minsker put the Cards on the scoreboard with a penalty kick, freshman Ben Leone scored his first varsity goal and Junior Rowan Wilburn put the game to bed in the last three minutes with a final goal. Two away games are next up for the Cardinal Varsity men this week. On Tuesday, they travel to Salem to play the Western Christian Pioneers and on Friday they take on the Aardvarks of OES. The Football team opened their season against the Cobras from Central Linn. The Cards dominated both sides of the ball and energized the Cardinal crowd with electrifying plays all night. It was a great Cardinal welcome to Coach Phillips who is also our new Weight Training and Health teacher. The Cards will be at home again this week against Gervais on Friday, 9/13 at 7pm.
Last week, Women's Volleyball kicked off their season with a bang and are 2-0 with wins against Estacada and Creswell. The Cards controlled the net, played great defense, and want to give a shout out to the Cardinal fans who brought the energy! Their next home game is Tuesday at 4:30 and 6:00 against Riverdale. Head to the nest after the women’s soccer game to watch them in action.
Remember when we show up to cheer on our Cardinals - all of our cheers must be positive cheers directed at our team. We know other schools sometimes do not abide by these rules- but we will! Be loud, be proud, and be positive. Go Cards!
