Note from the Principal
Hello Spencer Families,
It was a great week at Spencer! We have enjoyed the wonderful fall weather. Thank you to everyone who came out to the Trunk or Treat event last night. It was tons of fun! Our PTO does an amazing job putting together these fun events for us and we are so appreciative of them. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your time together! Go Lions!

Note on Attendance
We believe that regular attendance and punctuality are fundamental to your child's academic success. Consistent classroom presence allows students to fully engage in our curriculum and build strong relationships with their peers and teachers.
Attendance:
Monitoring Absences: We closely monitor student attendance and will reach out to families once a student is out 10% of the year so far.
Support and Assistance: If there are factors preventing your child from attending school regularly, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are here to offer support and explore potential solutions.
Punctuality:
Prompt Start and End Times: School begins at 9:05 AM and ends at 3:57 PM.
Importance of Timeliness: Arriving on time and staying for the entire school day ensures that your child doesn't miss out on important instruction and activities.
By prioritizing attendance and punctuality, we can create a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping your child achieve their academic goals.
We are currently just over halfway through the 1st trimester of school and attendance notices are being mailed out today to those students who have excessive tardies and absences. Excessive Absences = 10% or more of the marking period. The section on Attendance (taken from the Student Handbook) is pictured below. Medically excused absences do not count against your student's attendance, so send in those doctor's notes if you have them. If you have any questions regarding your students attendance, feel free to contact Lisa Berry via email at berryl@brightonk12.com.

Counselor's Corner
Hello from your Spencer Elementary School Counselor, Mrs McKiddy! I have very much enjoyed our start to a great school year. I spent the month of September delivering lessons centered around making connections and creating strong and supportive cultures within their classrooms. For the month of October we are hopping on board with National Anti-Bullying Awareness Month. We will learn what bullying means, identify the roles within a bullying situation, and encourage our students to become Upstanders. Along with this encouragement, I will work with students to equip them with the tools and strategies of how to stand up for themselves and others.
As the year progresses, I am continuing to connect with classroom teachers to ensure I am supporting all student needs within our building. If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my Parent Referral Form/Permission Slip and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have, and I will do my best to support your student.
Warmly,
Mrs. McKiddy

BAS Mental Health & Wellness
As a district, it is our mission to provide a rigorous, meaningful, and well-rounded education that will inspire each student to achieve their personal best. BAS believes that each student and staff member can reach their full potential when challenged to do their best, with an open mind, and with an unwavering commitment to personal growth.
We continue to increase our efforts to support each person's mental health and wellness with resources, time, and experiences. This information and much more can be found on the BAS Wellness & Mental Health website or download the app by typing in Brighton Area Schools on iTunes or Google Play.
Just In Case Clothes
Parents - Please make sure you pack a change of clothes (that are weather appropriate) in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL students, grades JK-4th, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or loose a tooth, or spill food/milk on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have a bathroom accident. If your student keeps a change of clothing in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we need you to bring up a change of clothes. Thank you for your cooperation.
